She didn't want to be here again, sitting by a hospital bedside next to the woman she loved. She didn't want to have to hope and pray for her to just wake up because there were no certainties that she ever would.
The first time, they'd still been in school, and Alicia had only been able to visit on the weekends.
This time, she was free to stay for as long as it took for Katie to wake up.
"I remember the first time I met you," she murmured, stroking the back of her girlfriend's hand. "Even then, when you were a first year and I a second, I thought you were adorable. So bubbly and bouncy and so excited about everything.
"And I remember the first time I kissed you, after we won the cup for the first time. Later you thought I'd done it in the heat of the moment, do you remember that. You tried to give me an out.
"As if I'd ever take it."
Alicia chuckled to herself sadly.
"And I remember how scared I've been because of you over the years. First when you fell from your broom, and then the necklace… I've never been so terrified as I was when I heard about that. Madam Pomfrey had to put me to sleep with a potion."
She shook her head.
"And I remember how different you were when you woke up. Your mood swings… man, you gave me whiplash. And I remember the look on your face when you told me that you'd understand if I couldn't love you anymore. Because you were different."
Tears were streaming down Alicia's face.
"As if I could ever not love you. You're the most beautiful person in the world to me, you always have been. You always will be.
"Even now, you still have the mood swings. I expect you always will. It's okay though. I like it sometimes, when I'm the one who's touch you want, when you let me hold you close for hours because you just want to feel someone. I love that it's me that you want.
"And now, now you're taking another long nap. That's okay too, though, Katie. You take your time to wake up. I'll be here, baby, until the very end of time."

When Katie woke up, it was to find Alicia asleep on the chair beside her.
