A/N: Another Professor Layton thing I came up with. I've only got two more ideas left after this one… Hmmm… Might have to replay all the games… Flora's POV.
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Without Luke, the Professor seemed quite lonely. He was quieter, more reserved than ever. I saw that as hard to do. He was already quite calm to begin with. He kept the brim of his hat pulled over his dark eyes more than usual. He was distant.
I guess that, without Luke, the Professor had lost some will to live his life to the fullest. He just went into a dull, almost coma-like state of dormancy. He rarely spoke and when he did, it was useless words, none with any true meaning. That was something very, very unlike the Professor. All his words usually had such deep, true meaning to them. Now they were just said to give an answer.
He went to work regularly. He did his job silently. Many of his students called and I took messages. They wondered if he was alright. I didn't know how to answer, and I told them that.
I wasn't even sure myself, really. He seemed lost without Luke. It was like part of him had been ripped away and he had been left as nothing more than the shell of a body, the true life left somewhere else. He wasn't himself. He was pained. The Professor wasn't right.
I even gave him a puzzle. A simple one. And he was disinterested. He just gave me a blank stare and shooed me to go make tea or something. It was disturbing how he had become a husk of his formerly glorious self without his beloved apprentice by his side.
It wasn't just the Professor who missed Luke. I missed him too.
Luke had become something like my best friend. He was my companion. He treated me like a girl, yes, but he was also very kind about it. Luke was a true gentleman. He acted like he was taking care of me in a nearly brotherly way. He was like family with me. He was truly sweet and kind.
He was something that was more important than life itself. He was someone true to himself despite what others said. He was the kind of boy that was just so genuine. People like Luke were hard to find. I was just glad I knew him.
And I missed him. I missed my companion. I missed him as my best friend.
And he had changed the Professor in ways that had left me awestruck. He was so important to the Professor in only ways that I could see once he was gone.
Without Luke, our lives were hardly worth living. But yet, we pressed on through the days, pretending as if nothing was wrong. Because one day in the future, we would see Luke again. And that was enough to keep the two of us hoping.
A/N: Didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, but I hope you like it. Please review.
