A/N: Okay, first fic on here. It's just gonna be a quick, fluffy, little Shara/Raven drabble. :)
Raven was impersonal and unfriendly. At least that seemed to be the consensus around the village of Sharance. Shara knew better. She saw the sadness in the other girl's eyes and knew she was lonely more than anything else. So Shara went out of her way to talk to the quiet girl, yet her kindness never seemed to reach; no matter how many times she tried, Raven wouldn't open up to her. It soon became Shara's life goal to become good friends with the red-head. It was this that led her to the blacksmith on a sunny spring morning.
Entering the smithy, she greeted Gaius, who looked up from his forging long enough to wipe his forehead with his arm and smile at her. She walked up to the front desk.
"Good morning, Raven," she chirped. Raven regarded her with cold eyes.
"…Good morning," she replied.
"So I wanted to know if you wanted to go flower picking with me," Shara said, holding up a basket. The invitation was simply a formality. She wasn't going to take no for an answer. Raven was silent for a moment.
"I'm working," she responded shortly.
"Oh, I'm sure Gaius won't mind if you go out for an hour or so, right Gaius?" From his forge, Gaius spoke up.
"Nah, I don't mind. You go out and have fun Raven," he said. Shara looked up expectantly at Raven, who slowly broke down and took the basket from Shara.
"But only for an hour," she clarified, walking past the flower girl out the door. With a feeling of victory, Shara followed her.
For a while in Flower Field, they picked flowers in silence. Shara struggled holding a conversation with Raven, as she usually replied with one-word responses. After a short moment of silence, Raven stood and looked at Shara.
"Why do you do this?" she asked bluntly.
"Do what?" Shara asked, confused.
"Try to talk to me, try to do things with me. I don't get it." Raven dusted off her jacket. Shara stood, and walked up to the other girl.
"Because I want to be your friend, obviously," she chuckled. Raven ducked her head.
"Bad things happen to people who get close to me," she mumbled. Silence hung between them for a moment.
"You don't have to always be scared, you know," Shara finally said. She picked a flower from her basket and placed it in Raven's hand, then leaned in and gently kissed her lips. When she realized what she had done, Shara turned pink. She smiled awkwardly at Raven, whose face had turned as bright as her hair.
"I'll always be here if you need someone," she said. "Well, we should get going. It's been about an hour; Gaius will want you back now." She turned and headed down the path.
Raven stood for a moment, lips tingling pleasantly. She put her fingers to them. A passing thought slipped through her head: people who grow flowers are as beautiful as they are.
