The first two things Missy realized waking up were that her head hurt and the heat, the unbearable heat. I really shouldn't have let my guard down, she chatised inwardly, whenever I do, it never ends well. She took in her surroundings and laughed. Of course, she thought. She was on the cliff at the edge of a volcano, somewhere in the Apple Galaxy, possibly in the 54th century. How perfectly romantic.
"You know, Doctor, if you wanted to ask me out on a date, you could've just asked."
She watches as the Doctor, all eyebrows and Time Lord Victorious, stepped out from the shadows and into the dull fire-orange glow that lit up the edges of the cliff.
"I need answers. Now."
She rolls her eyes, because that is just typical Doctor, impatient like a five-year-old.
"Is it is about your pretty little pet? Oh, she was fun to play with while it lasted."
"This isn't about Clara." His voice was decidedly flat, with a slight tremor of anger. "This is about you. How did you escape the Time War."
She laughs, insanely then, and her lips curve up into a wide smirk. "You are dying to know how I did it, aren't you?"
He doesn't answer her and draws himself to his full height, eyes ablaze with fury and another unrecognizable emotion. She watches him warily, waiting for a reaction of some sort from her long-time enemy and former childhood friend. She knew from the stiffness of his posture and the way he clenched his fists at his side that she had struck a chord. Even after all these years, she mused, I could still read him like an open book. Suddenly, in a smooth motion, too fast for her to react, he grabs her by her coat and Missy stumbles backward towards the edge of the cliff. Her hat falls off and it falls down, down into the lava below with a resounding hiss. For shame. She liked that hat.
"Tell me. Tell me everything. How you escaped, how you survived, everything."
"Or else?" She smiled, wider still.
"Or else it'll be the end of you." He shoves her closer to the precipice.
She laughs harder, "Oh Doctor, death is only the end if you assume the story is about you." She shoves the Doctor's arm away, pats her coat, and begins walking towards the TARDIS. "Well, come along, sweetie, don't you want to know how I survived? All of time and space, through every star that ever was, where do you want to start?" And she grins wickedly at the noticeable flinch.
