A/N:Here's a quick one-shot I just randomly thought of, hope you all enjoy :D
On a Cold Winter's Night
If it were a normal night, Fionna would be outside exploring with her sister. Unfortunately due to the cold weather outside, she was stuck in the tree house. Luckily for her, one of her closest friends agreed to come over and hang out with her. Currently video games were what distracted them from the howling winds outside.
The blonde laughed and pumped her fist in the air, "Tenth time in a row Marshall! I win again!" She cheered as the screen popped up a 'YOU WIN' message.
Marshall frowned with a small huff, "You were just lucky, that's all." He explained pouting a bit. He always was a sore loser when it came to video games. It didn't help that she like to rub it in his face each time she won.
She continued to laugh, her hand covering her lips in hope to hide the few snorts that liked to slip out. "Luck? Dude, you just plain out stink." She then plugged her nose playfully, "Go take a bath man." She told him as she used her other hand to fan 'the stink' away,
He pushed her jokingly, "Fi, you're lucky I can't get mad at you." His pout was replaced with a soft smile as he looked over her. "For whatever reason that it..." He said with a shrug.
Marshall's smile caused hers grow, "It's because I'm adorable right?" She asked, batting her eyelashes towards him. Of course that was it, who could deny her cute, chubby face?
He snorted with a nod, "Definitely, that has to be it." He said with a roll of his eyes.
She gave him a small push back, "You're so mean, you know that?" She huffed and crossed her arms. She was adorable and she wouldn't think otherwise no matter who told her what. That included the high and mighty Vampire King,
The lights suddenly flickered, going off for a good three seconds. They looked at each other. Busting in a small bit of laughter, feeling foolish for being scared at something so simple.
Getting up partially, she crawled over to the window to look out of the tree house. "It's snowing pretty harshly..." She pointed out, some concern in her voice. "If you want to go home, maybe you should head out soon. I don't want you dying out in the cold." She turned towards him, "Cake is staying with her boyfriend, you could always stay the night here..." She suggested with a small blush covering her cheeks. She wouldn't admit it out loud, but she hoped he said yes.
He came up behind her and gave her quite the surprise when he slid his arms around her body, "Look at you being so nice to me. First you destroy me at some stupid games and now you're offering me your home? What have I done to deserve such a good friend?" He asked as he rested his chin on her shoulder, his eyes closed as he took in her scent.
Fionna relaxed in Marshall's arms, "Why are you holding me?" She asked confused, her voice soft. She continued to stare out the window, watching the large orbs of snow fall from the sky. It hadn't snowed this bad since last winter.
He floated back, lifting her with him, "Because you're really warm, that's why." His explanation was short as they floated there, enjoying their own peace.
"Maybe I don't want to be held," She mumbled even though she knew it was a lie. For many, it was a dream to be held by the Vampire King like this. Luckily for her, it happened all the time. Mostly because he enjoyed teasing her.
He wrapped his arms around her tighter, making sure there was no way of escape. "Too bad I guess."
They just floated around together in silence now, her eyes closed and breathing slowed. It was beyond peaceful, she didn't think there was anything else she could ask for. Thankfully Cake was gone because if she saw the two, she knew her sister would be teasing them. Cake knew how she felt and that just made everything so much worse.
"Want me to sing you a lullaby?" He suddenly asked, breaking the silence.
The blonde nodded, "That would actually be pretty nice." She loved his voice, it was always so soft and smooth.
"Hush little Fionna go to sleep, Think about all those little baby sheep.
They'll jump over that little wooden fence, just don't always be so tense." Marshall sang softly, continuing without a single struggle. She wasn't sure how he was able to do this.
Despite it being a lullaby, she cracked her eyes open. She didn't want to fall asleep, she wanted to hear him sing. Though it was hard remaining awake, Marshall's chest was just so comfortable. Nonetheless, she made sure she stayed up. It was after a few minutes that she realized his song was over. Looking up, she met with his crimson eyes. "Whats up?"
He gave off a small sigh before looking away, "So I didn't just come here to hang out with you Fionna... I wanted to talk to you about something." He explained to her, his voice turning serious.
She wasn't sure what to think, the atmosphere suddenly changed. Why did she have a bad feeling about this? "Why are you being so serious right now?" She let out a nervous laugh, "Your face is going to get all scrunched up if you keep that up."
Marshall sighed once more and looked down sadly, "My mother want's me to return to the Nightosphere Fi..." He revealed, his voice showing how much he didn't want it to be so.
Her eyes widened, that was not what she was expecting to come out of his mouth. "You're not leaving me right? Just tell her no like you usually do!" She told him, moving away slightly. This happened many times before, where his mother would make such demands. She just never thought he would agree to them. Why did she suddenly feel like she was going to be losing her friend?
His arms loosened around her, "I can't this time Fi. It's my time to take charge..." He said sadly, his eyes falling to the ground.
She was right, if Marshall went away, she was going to lose her friend. She shook her head, "You seriously can't leave me Marshall. You're my best guy friend! Who will I strangle pixies with?" She felt the familiar warm liquid fill her eyes, she was going to cry. How in the world could her world fall so suddenly? "Tell her no, please, don't leave me." Her voice begged, cracking at the end.
There was silence from the other, she covered her face to hide the tears that threatened to fall. She had to be strong for the both of them, she had to- Her thoughts came to a halt when she heard a snicker come from the other. She looked up at him, her watery eyes meeting his. "What?"
Marshall started laughing, his whole aura changing. His eyes lit up and his fanged smile grew. "I can't believe you actually believed me! You think I'd go to the Nightosphere to rule? Do you not know me?"
It was then that her tears flowed down her pale cheeks. She stared at him, her brows knitting together. "You... You are seriously a jerk!" She swung around and gave him a nice chop on the skull. She sniffed and held her hand, of course he had a hard head.
"Hey!" He groaned rubbing his head, "What was that for?" He paused, "You don't have to cry, I was just kidding around." He said awkwardly before going to rub the back of his neck.
She wiped at her face, leaving her eyes slightly red. "Well I didn't think it was funny... I thought I was going to actually lose you dude..." She said it softly before getting off of him. Walking back in front of the video games, she sat back down. Looking back, she pouted his way. "Come back here so I can kick your butt again." She ordered him.
He continued floating there for a moment, watching her expression. He suddenly let out what was a mixture of a sigh and laugh. Fionna the human, she was just too much. A soft smile forming, he gave a nod and headed her way. He could let her win again, he supposed.
A/N: Sorry if this sucked bro's I just really wanted to write something... I have no clue what happened, it just did. Hope you enjoyed it though. Thanks for reading. (Edit: Five years later, I figured I could fix this story up a little. This needed a lot of work! To those who read it now, I'm glad you are seeing this version.
