Disclaimer: I do not own Ninjago or any of its characters. I do however own Alex, Lucas, Zoey, Echo, Joey, Nancy, and Caleb. I co-own Vanessa with Madi and she owns Tove.
I noticed a couple people were writing stuff about the tournament. It seems really cool because of all the new characters. I also noticed I didn't really go into any depth of how I see Ninjago. So, I decided to kill two birds with one stone!
I also noticed I have written a lot of Ninjago, and though it's one of my main writes because of all the OCs I've created, I'm going to try and work on other fandom fanfiction. So, if you enjoy Percy Jackson, Cirque Du Freak, Steven Universe, Pokémon, or the Outsiders; expect some of those to pop up. (Plus a Minecraft one of some YouTubers.)
Also, I only have one other Ninjago fanfic I'm posting (besides the last story in the Ninja of Storm series). I'm cutting back on those unless I come up with a REALLY good idea.
To finish this author's note, there are some stories I have just lost inspiration for. I won't be deleting them, but there will be a note on them saying it's discontinued or will be rarely updated. I realized I am not a committer.
So, on to the story! If you read this entire A/N, thanks. I worked hard on it!
Lloyd and Kai walked out onto the upper deck. "Next time Alex and Tove want to make a bet, remind me to say no," Kai said.
Lloyd nodded in agreement. "All of their chores for a whole week! Who knew they were so good at Halo?"
Kai grabbed the two mops and handed one to Lloyd. "I swear they cheated, but like Cole said, technically we have no proof."
"And with no proof we're practically acting like dumb little kids, according to Jay," Lloyd added.
"I'd love to ignore them, but they're right." Kai sighed as he began scrubbing the deck. "Do you think we could trick them into admitting. . ." His voice trailed as he spotted an envelope. He walked over and picked it up. "To the Elemental Masters," he read.
Lloyd walked over. "What are you waiting for? Open it," he insisted.
Kai opened the letter and read aloud, "Dear Ninja. I am hosting a Tournament of Elements on my private island. It's an open inviation to anyone with elemental powers who wishes to attend. No one will be left out. If you are interested in participating, go to the Ninjago docks and head south Saturday after sunset. Leave all your weapons behind. From, Master Chen."
"Oh cool! I'm in!"
Kai and Lloyd both jumped as they turned to Echo. She smiled brightly at them, her hands innocently folded in front of her. The green ninja shook his head. "You're not going. We don't even know if we're going."
"You may not, but I'm going," Kai said.
"Come on! It says all with powers can attend. I have powers," Echo said as if she needed to remind them. "It's just a tournament. As long as there's no fight to the death, everything should go smoothly."
"Let's talk to the others first," Lloyd decided. "See what they think."
"I wonder if there's a prize," Kai wondered aloud. "Best Elemental Master."
"Come on, Kai," Lloyd said. He grabbed the Master of Fire's wrist and lead him down to the lower decks, Echo following behind, giggling.
"This is going to be awesome!" Jay shouted. "We can meet other Elemental Masters? I didn't realize there were any!"
"Yeah, how come you never told us?" Cole asked.
Misako and Garmadon both seemed to have no answer, but Sensei Wu said, "We knew if you were aware of others like you, you'd want to go find them."
"And not all of them are ones you would want to encounter," Garmadon added. "In my opinion, you shouldn't be going to this tournament."
"Why not?" Alex asked. "It's just a tournament. We go, win or lose, and come back. Ninjago should be at peace long enough for us to do that."
"I do not wish to compete, but I will go to watch," Zoey said.
"It's your decision," Misako told them. "We will go for support."
"Great!" Vanessa said. "Eh, all in favor of going?"
"I," everyone said.
"How do people get powers?" Tove suddenly asked. "I assume there's a story behind it."
"There is," Wu agreed. "Besides the Master of Spinjitzu, there were the Masters of Elements which were his protectors. The power is passed down through blood, but it doesn't have to be direct. Like for instance, Garmadon and I never recieved any powers and neither did Misako."
"My grandmother was the Master of Storms while my grandfather was Master of Weapons," Misako said.
"Cool," Echo said in awe.
"Sweet," Alex said with a smile.
"What about my powers?" Lucas asked.
"Mine and Wu's grandmother, actually," Garmadon said. "On our mom's side. She was the Master of Minds, and the reason our parents met."
"So, all of us recieved powers from our parents or grandparents?" Kai asked. "Well, what about Zane and Zoey? And Nya doesn't have any powers."
"Not everyone has powers," Misako said. "And Zane and Zoey are different."
The nindroid siblings exchanged looks, both glad to be unique.
"So, there's only one question left. Can I go?" Echo asked.
"Of course you can go," Misako said.
"Yes!" Echo cheered.
"You just won't be participating," Wu added.
"Cheered too soon," Echo said. "Why not?"
"Echo, it's just not the type of thing for an eight-year-old," Zane told her. "We know you're capable, but maybe if there's another one in a couple years, you can compete in that one."
Echo crossed her arms, but she never argued with Zane. "Fine."
"Let's get ready then," Lloyd said. "Saturday is tomorrow. We need to pack."
"Caleb! You have a letter!"
Caleb frowned as he walked into the living room. His mom handed him the letter and he opened it, sitting on the couch to read it. He looked over it, silently reading it to himself.
Dear Caleb,
There is going to be a Tournament of Elements on my private island. You are invited to participate, seeing as you have a power passed down from your mother. It's not a dangerous tournament, just something fun to do. If you want to participate, go to the Ninjago docks and head south Saturday after sunset. There will be a boat waiting.
From,
Master Chen
He folded it and put it in his pocket. He stood up and walked over to his dad.
"Who was the letter from?" his dad asked.
Just Nancy. It was a project for school. May I hang out with her? Maybe spend the night at the orphanage tomorrow, he signed.
"Uh, sure," his dad said. "Do you have a room to stay in?"
No one moved into my room since you adopted me. I can stay there.
"Then sure," he said. "I'm okay with it and I'm sure your mother is too."
Caleb went upstairs to his room. He patted his pocket. He was definitely going. He grabbed a suitcase and started packing.
"I'm totally going!" Nancy said.
"What? No!" Becca corrected. "You aren't going to some tournament."
"Please, Becca! This is something I've been waiting for! You didn't read the letter. I could learn where my powers are from," the young girl said. "I've always wanted to know! Hey, I'll just go to find out where my powers come from. I won't even compete."
Becca crossed her arms. "You aren't going. That's final." She turned and walked out of the room.
"You could just go without telling her," McKenzie said. "I'll cover for you."
Nancy turned to the five-year-old. "You will?"
"'Course! That's what roommates are for."
Nancy ran over and hugged her. "Oh, I love you so much!"
McKenzie giggled. "I know! I'm adorable!"
"Joey Lord, grandson of the Overlord."
Joey stumbled out of the tree he was climbing in. He stood up and clenched his fists. "Clouse," he growled. "What do you want? I told you, I'm not learning anything you're willing to teach."
"That's not why I'm here," Clouse said. "Master Chen is having a tournament and you're invited. He wanted me to deliver the message personally while I was on the mainland."
Joey stuffed his hands in his pockets. "What makes you think I want to enter the tournament?"
"Because for you, it's not an option," Clouse informed him.
"What does he have on me?"
"Only that you are still indebt to him."
Joey swallowed dryly. "My dad is indebt."
"Your father is dead. It's passed to you," he said. "I will see you there then. The boat leaves after sunset tomorrow. I believe you remember the way." He turned and began to walk away.
Joey took a hesitant breath. A black veil surrounded him and he vanished.
