THE ENCOUNTER
SCENE 1
FADE IN: Kitchen, morning.
Girl is sitting at a table, eating oatmeal and looking at her laptop on the table. She is wearing pajamas still. There's a cup of coffee next to her in a tinkerbell mug.
Phone next to her buzzes.
TEXT MESSAGE FROM TIM: Good Morning.
Her posture changes and she looks around before replying.
GIRL: Hey.
TIM (TEXT): I miss you.
GIRL: I miss you, too. Can't talk now. Bye. [She throws phone into her purse, making sure it's silent]
TIM (TEXT): I want to see you again. [Phone buzzes and she ignores it]
She gets up, rinses out the bowl and puts it on a dish rack. A young male, with thick beard walks in and kisses her. He's wearing pajamas and clearly just rolled out of bed.
GIRL: Hey, Boo. How'd ya sleep?
BRAD: Great. He kisses her neck and makes a moaning sound. How about you?
GIRL: Oh, you know. She dodges him and heads toward the bedroom worrying about, you know, stuff…
She goes into the bedroom and begins to undress, grabbing a towel and getting ready to shower.
BRAD waits for her to go into the bathroom, looking over his shoulder, he rummages through her purse and finds her phone. Looking at it, he contemplates looking at the screen. He takes a deep breath and starts to unlock it, when he hears the water stop. He throws the phone back into her purse and rushes over to his computer in the corner.
GIRL: Hey, babe she shouts from the shower Do we need anything at the store? I'm making a list…
BRAD: Uh… he shouts Not sure, maybe milk? He starts concentrating on some computer code.
GIRL comes out dressed for work. Puts her shoes on, then she grabs her laptop, throws it in her bag.
GIRL: Okay, love you. Bye! She grabs her purse and heads out the door, grabbing her keys and a water bottle.
CUT TO GIRL IN WHITE CAR
GIRL gets into her white car and pulls out her phone to text TIM.
GIRL: (text) Hey – I'm heading to work. Meet for lunch?
TIM: (text) Sure. Thai place again?
GIRL: (text) C U there.
CUT TO
BRAD looks out the kitchen window and watches her text before she drives out. He watches her as she drives away.
