My name is Beatrice Prior. I'm heading to Faction Education Academy (FEA) for my Junior year of high school.

I'm not really up for school change, but when you have a mother as busy as mine is, you've got to make a little space for adaptation.

I'm pretty low-key. I mean, I have a reasonably nice body, a good 5'8" in height and reasonably curved but lean, which allows me to have a certain style of dress. Thinner jeans and a longer top. I've usually got an earphone in one ear for my LifeTrack – the play list of songs I've loved my whole life, or at least since they came out.

I've got a calm-blond colored hair that goes down to my waist. It has a bit of wave to it, but not enough to make a big deal out of. Its usually in a loose bun. My layers make it stray out f the band a bit, but it actually looks good.

I'm a dancer, but not ballet or anything. I like to dance to solid-beat kick-ass songs, or in huge contrast, latin music. They offer classes at FEA for modern-adjustment. My cousin Sebastian takes it as well, and has consented to be my partner. He's my age and to be honest, we are good, like good good.

I'm not a popular kid either, but I usually get enough friends to have a strong surrounding and have a good time. Plus, to be popular you need to have a strong sense of self, and be willing to put up with everyone who wants to be with you.

I've never had a boyfriend or kissed anyone, because I'm not the one who throws herself at them. Those are called sluts.

My brother Caleb is at MIT. He got an academic, and football scholarship, making money much less of a problem here at home.

Caleb and I are close. Like really close. I tell him everything I can because he actually wants to hear it. My mom is great but she has gotten herself in the habit of asking out fo pure respect for my lifestyle.

I really don't mind at all, especially since I don't know how I would explain to her anyway.

But I'm here at my locker, with my newfound schedule heading off to Pre-Calc I.

I'm about 15 minutes early, so I take a seat on the floor just by the room, and shuffle my LifeTrack playlist. It doesn't even start before I have to stop it, due to a girl guy coming up to me.

"Prior!" I almost choke in my shock. Uriah Pedrad, the son of my mother's best friend, offers a hand for me to stand up. He's tan with green eyes and dirty-blond hair.

"Holy – Uri why didn't you mention you go here Wednesday?" I smirk.

"Eh – knew you'd find out soon enough." He puts a hand on my shoulder and tugs me around the corner.

"I want you to meet my gang." He says as we arrive to a table in the cafeteria, surrounded by a few people.

"Your gang?" I recognize Zeke, Uriah's older brother and spitting image, as he stand up and gives me a one-armed hug.

"How's it Prior?" I grin in response.

"So when do we get to meet her?" Smirks a girl who I notice about my height as she too stands up next to Zeke. There's not really a word to describe her but 'pretty'. She has black hair that goes to the small of her back, and mocha-tanned skin, that to bhonest shone a little bit.

"This is Tris Prior." Says Zeke, using my… publicly preferred name to Beatrice.

"Christina." The girl nods and extends her hand. I smile a bit confusedly and shake it.

Another girl stands up from next to her. She's a bit taller, with wavy brown hair about my length, and a really friendly complection.

"Marlene." She says. She has a willowy voice, contrasting Christina's upbeat, energetic, but not really easily… pleased one.

Marlene comes over and gives me a hug, which I being in shock return with a bit less enthusiasm. The girl following her is Shauna. She is like Marlene but with electric blond hair that hangs straight down her back.

She too smiles and gives me a hug, which I, now expecting, return. Then there's Will. He's pretty tall at around 6'0", he offers a hand which I shake.

The last person is Four. I don't judge nicknames even ones as uncommon as this one, but it doesn't stop me from wondering.

Four has a really guarded and quiet aura about him. I mean sure, he's hot, but he gives the impression of the guy who sleeps with the girl without giving a scrap of self-information.

He gives me a curt nod and looks away just after. I give an amused nod in return and turn back to Zeke.

"Thanks for the welcome." I grin. He gives a thumbs up and Christina gestures to me. " I've got Pre-Calc with you, if you want to head in."

I nod and follow her out.

When we get to our seats, she turns to me. "So you're the Prior? Zeke and Uri talk about you all the time. Say that you're the 'chill'est chick there is."

I scoff, "I'm about as 'chill' as they are balanced." Christina to my surprise laughs at this. She doesn't strike me as the kind of girl to laugh easily, and I get this small surge of pride in myself.

"I know what you mean. They had a cake eating contest. Uri threw up all over the table, and Zeke wasn't much better." She smirks.

I put my hand on the desk. "Now imagine that but instead of cake, with Jenga blocks from sixteen game sets at the store. Instead of throwing up it was a concussion check for Zeke and a week grounded for Uri."

She actually double over at this, and I struggle to hold it in myself. Zeke was found buried in Jenga blocks with a few cuts on his head.

I look up to see Will giving me an impressed look and a thumbs up. Four stands by talking with Zeke who is grinning like an idiot, and Shauna and Marlene are in the back corner whispering excitedly.

The class itself was pretty uneventful. Christina seemed to warm up to me nicely, and I worked with her and Will on the group page.

I had a free period following, so I headed to a resource room with Uri, Zeke and Four.

We sit at probably the only empty table left, and it's scattered with leftover cuts of paper. Uriah swept them right onto the floor.

Zeke and I exchanged an exasperated look at this, but joined him all the same.

"So tell about what we've missed since Wednesday." Zeke says.

To be honest, nothing really. I just kept up my Dance and Astronomy practices.

"Astronomy?" Four asks, with a shocked but still guarded expression.

I turn to face him. "Yeah, I've always had an interest in Constellation placement, and star development.

"Well constellations don't have exact placement always changing form."

I'm suddenly very interested. He knows his stuff.

"True in the literal sense, but the actual constellation itself doesn't change through star formation."

He looks at me for a second, before he gives a short, considerate laugh and nods.

"Of course you could always chart it out from a different angle. That would position every thing differently." He offers.

"But you don't really want to set up at anything but standard, especially here in Chicago during summer. It would make the Big Dipper look like a dick."

Four shoots me a smile, and Zeke and Uriah snigger violently.

"If you two are done being all smart, we'd like to waste our minds on an invention called Multi-Player." Four scoffs, but opens his Mac up anyway.

I don't know what they're playing but I don't really care. Right now, I'm relishing the fact that I have friends who in at least one case, show interest.

I play my LifeTrack and lean back closing my eyes and listening to the smooth voice of Ellie Goulding's "This Love (Will Be Your Downfall)"
