Prologue
"Uncle Kovu! Uncle Kovu!" a young brown lion shouted.
Kovu sat atop pride rock's edge, drinking in the last rays of the sun as it set. The young brown lion had a tuft of a growing dark wine-red mane, sandy brown fur, a cream coloured muzzle and striking red eyes. Kovu grunted in acknowledgement as he stared at the setting sun.
"Guess what!"
"What?"
"I beat Dogo in wrestling today!"
At his words, Kovu's eyes widened.
"Bilozi... C-congratulations..." Kovu said warily. Inside Kovu's mind, he was wondering about his son, Dogo.
At birth, Dogo was the average cub. But as he grew, it became increasingly prominent that the young lion had inherited abilities almost similar to Kovu's former 'brother' Nuka. This worried both Kiara and Kovu greatly but both tried very hard to dismiss it as merely a temporary childhood event.
"Uncle Kovu, what's wrong?" Bilozi asked. Kovu stared at the young lion blankly; thoughts swirling inside his head wildly.
"Bilozi; you are to refer to me as your majesty and no longer 'uncle' do you understand?" Kovu glared.
"Y-yes your m-majesty..." the young lion cub said whilst looking down; a deep frown adorning his lips.
Bilozi's biological parents were unknown, much like Kovu. So when Kovu spotted the 4-week-old cub by the waterhole, alone, he – by mere instinct – took him into the pride as one of them.
Rumours that Kovu was Bilozi's biological father spread amongst the pride; believing that Kovu had cheated on Kiara.
However, Kovu vehemently denied the rumour and to prove it, he introduced the pride to his son, Dogo – Kovu's saving grace. Dogo had sand-coloured fur, a white under-belly, striking blue eyes, a cream-coloured muzzle and a tuft of a growing dark brown mane – courtesy of Kovu.
Dogo was currently inside the den sleeping. After playing lots and getting slightly injured, Dogo had collapsed inside the den.
Kiara watched the interaction between Kovu and Bilozi from afar. She sighed unhappily. Bilozi never really did anything wrong besides being the average cub. Except the one thing bothering both Kovu and her was that Bilozi displayed abilities akin to Mufasa – as Simba had said himself - but had the mind of a great past enemy known as Scar.
Dogo, however, was the opposite. He displayed abilities akin to Scar – which were poor - but had the personality of Mufasa – which was great, personality-wise.
Both Kiara and Kovu had received tedious lectures about Mufasa and Scar from Simba. Nala, also, was submitted to his lectures and the whole pride quickly understood that Mufasa held a great piece of Simba's life.
Kiara was snapped out of her thoughts by a tug at one of her legs.
"Huh?"
"U-Uhm... Your majes-"
"Call me Auntie Kiara, Bilozi"
"B-but King-"
"Nevermind my husband, he's... just got a lot on his mind at the moment..."
"Oh..."
Kiara felt pity for the cub.
"Auntie Kiara... I said to his majesty that I beat Dogo in a wrestling fight and then... and then he got... mad at me... Was it ok to beat Dogo?" Bilozi said hesitantly.
"Bilozi, I, for one, am tremendously proud of your achievements" A smile lit up Bilozi's face.
"However" she paused. "You must remember to make the right decisions in life... Ok?"
Bilozi nodded enthusiastically.
"Right, let's sleep now"
Then Kiara and Bilozi walked inside the den of Pride rock.
In the distance, a pair of green eyes watched Kovu – who was staring at the stars – in jealousy.
However, in a number of months, it would their time to strike: Soon.
