A little one-shot with Demyx, Axel and a tiny bit of Xemnas! Warning! Character Death! I do not own Kingdom Hearts in any way.

Axel hated Atlantica. All that dammed water prevented him from using his fire. And then there was the tail. What was up with that thing? Unfortunately, he had to find Demyx. That unnerving boy had run off again, right into the uncharted waters of the Ocean. He would get himself killed!

Not that Axel cared, after all, he couldn't.

The pyro swam faster, aiming to Demyx' last known location. The water below him was dark, and there was no sign of the boy. He went further, feeling the liquid around him and dodging any fish who thought of him as food. Through the quiet of the Ocean, his sharp hearing picked up some noise, somewhere below him. He looked downwards, but he couldn't see clearly in the darkness. Using the light available, his eyes detected some movement, right before a great mass showed itself, the silhouette of a shark. Preying on something... or someone.

He cursed under his breath, eyes wide from the scene before him. Demyx lay unconscious, or barely conscious, on the sand. Hands slightly trembling, he gazed at the particles of Darkness that moved away from the teenager's body.

His expression darkened when the beast moved again, coming in his direction. The world around them was still, as if Luxord was playing with Time again. For a moment, Axel wished he was. As the creature approached, he slowly turned his body to face it. His arms stretched, he called upon his Chakrams. Two inches from his face, the shark hesitated, giving Axel the opening he was hoping for. Using the blades of his weapons, and swimming at an incredible high speed, he gutted the beast, turning the water crimson.

Leaving the corpse floating in the water, Axel approached Nº 9's already fading form. Maybe if they got to the Superior in time, he could save him. The Nocturne stared weakly at him. "Hey, Ax..." His voice was rasped. "Demyx! What happened?" The boy managed to shrug it off, as always. "Got… into a little… trouble…" The water user stilled, his eyes closing oh-so slowly.

"Demyx! DEMYX!" The blond was not responding to his shakes. Axel lifted him up, careful not to worsen the damage, and summoned a dark Corridor. "Hold on, dude."

They appeared in the Superior's office. Xemnas stopped whatever he was doing before and looked at the pair. He raised an eyebrow at the fading member. "Nº Eight, what is the meaning of this?" His voice was cold, his expression unreadable. "Help him." Axel demanded. "Save him." Xemnas' eyebrow couldn't be raised any higher than it was. "He is beyond repair, and it would be a waste of my time and power even trying to fix him."

Axel gritted his teeth. Forcing himself on his knees and carefully putting Demyx on the floor, he pleaded to his leader. "At least try! I beg of you."

"I cannot help him. Let me be." Axel glared at his leader. "Dispose of the body before the remains gather the attention of the Heartless." Xemnas returned to the papers he had on his desk, ignoring his subordinates.

Much to Axel's despair, the water-wielder's body disappeared from his friend's arms.. He held on to him, but there was nothing he could have done. The rain outside stopped. It never did, when Demyx was on the castle. Without the constant sound of drops against the windows and walls, the halls seemed a lot quieter than they were before the Nocturne first arrived.

"It was too late." Came the cold voice of the Superior. Axel hated that voice; he loathed it, and couldn't bear the tone it came with. Empty, music less.

True, it may have been too late to save him, but that wasn't a reason not to try.

It's finished! (Don't worry, Demyx will resurrect later). Hope you enjoyed it.

"Dance, Water, dance!"
