How Voldemort should have been defeated:

The dark figure approached the building, his anticipation growing with each step. Tonight would be the night he would finally end the only threat to his rule and at the same time put an end to the thorn in his side that were the Potters.

He unlocked the gate with a quick flick of his wand and made his way to the front door, ignoring the sounds of laughter he could hear from within. Another wave of his wand and the door was blasted open. He advanced into the house, listening to Potter's yells for his wife to take their son and run. It wouldn't matter, there wouldn't be anywhere for them to go.

As Voldemort rounded the corner he came face to face with a very angry James Potter who was holding some type of metal pole with a hole carved through it. He let out a high, cold laugh at the fool's audacity.

"And just what, pray tell, is that supposed to be?" He asked, gesturing to the bizarre weapon.

"This here is what the muggles call a shotgun." James answered with a vicious grin. "After tonight you won't be able to hurt anyone ever again."

Voldemort snarled before starting the incantation, "Avada…" Before he could finish there was a resounding boom and Voldemort began to feel slightly light-headed. Looking down he saw that half his chest had been ripped away. His last thought before the darkness claimed him was, Well… That sucks.

"Huh. That was easy." James said, looking at the body of his mortal enemy as his wife came back around the corner.

"Did it work?" She asked, spotting the body on the floor.

"I think so." James said, grabbing a nearby poker and gently prodding the body. After he received no reaction he jumped to his feet and yelled, "I have the power! Quick, send a message to Sirius! I need his help!"

Thirty minutes later:

"There, dead center." Sirius said, stepping back away from the fireplace.

"So, James, what did you do with- Bloody Merlin, what do you think you're doing?" Lily screamed as she came into the room.

"Adding our newest hunting trophy to the wall!" James said proudly.

"No way! I do not want our sonto have to see that thing every time he enters the living room!" Lily growled as she left the room, muttering something about "men" and "idiocy".

James looked at Sirius blankly who said, "I thought it was a good idea."

The two of them looked back at the severed head they had mounted on the wall with a plaque that read 'Voldemort the Snakeman. Scourge of the Wizarding World. (Obtained October 31st, 1981.)'
