A/N: Slightly twisted oneshot. Abby's POV.
She coughs and forgets to cover her mouth.
He sends her a burning stare from across the table.
She is at the office, sitting at the grande table accompanied by her colleagues, all of them in their own worlds of paper work. She looks around. He isn't here. Silly little Abby, she scolds herself. It is impossible for him to find her. Olivia's made sure of that.
She stares down at the text before her and sighs loudly. She cannot get her heart to stop beating so fast and neither do her cheeks stop burning.
On the other side of the table, Olivia coughs and covers her mouth, a not so pale hand.
"You will never be good enough"
Abby silently excuses herself but no one looks up.
"No one cares if you're gone, love."
She hurries to the bathroom, heels clicking against the marble floors. It is dark, dark, dark everything is so dark. Finally in the bathroom, she stares at her own reflection in the mirror. She looks into her own eyes of deep ocean and stormy skies, and soon gets lost in herself.
He goes to work and leaves her at home. Gone, gone, gone. Her days are spent in her own head, trying to figure out what happened and what to do. His words are bitter; they bruise and scar her already fragile self. However, he never lays a hand upon her.
She takes off her shirt. In the fluorescent light of the bathroom the contrast between silk and bruises becomes apparent on her pale skin. She coughs and remembers to cover her mouth.
He smiles.
She stares at the light scar above her belly button and inhales deeply. In the back of her mind she hears his words echoing in the empty bathroom.
"Hello sweetheart," he enters their home. "Make me a sandwhich, will you?" It isn't a question.
She stares at her pale hands with the pale nails. She looks at the invisible chains that kept her with him for so long. She broke free, she did.
But one can break free in many ways and his presence still lingers.
She coughs but forgets to cover her mouth. Seconds later he's standing before her, face close, staring into her eyes with a burning glare. He slowly lifts his hand and before she realises what he is about to do it's already too late.
