Murdock awoke with a pounding headache. Well, more pounding than usual nowadays. He took a quick observation of his surroundings. He wasn't home, that's for sure.
He was still in his "outfit", and his mask was still on, so that's good, he thought. What was he sitting on? That felt like…nylon? Smelled bad too. Great, I'm in a dumpster again.
Murdock tried to climb out, but a shooting pain coursed through his entire body, so he collapsed. Well, there are worse places to be, he thought as he heard a mechanical whirring near him. He went dead silent, slowing his breathing to a crawl, but he could not hear a heartbeat, only the faint whine of gears. What could that be? It could have been one of those robots he had heard about on the news, that the Stark guy had built. But what would it be doing in Hell's Kitchen? Nevertheless, he tried to remain hidden.
It was no good. The robot peered into the dumpster, almost as if it could sense him there. Murdock froze. He could make out an oval-shaped outline of its head, and see that it had two cameras for eyes. "You have fallen," The robot said in a soothing monotone. HE did not know how to respond, or even if he should.
The robot followed up. "On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your pain?" Murdock still did not move, unsure if he should answer. His thoughts drifted to Claire, and how she had helped him when he needed it the most. "Ten," Murdock wheezed, just barely audible. The robot reached into the dumpster and picked him up with surprising ease.
"What are you?" Murdock whispered, still not feeling well enough to talk louder, also not wanting to give away anything. "I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion," The robot replied. He surmised it had wandered off from a hospital somewhere around here.
Baymax set him gently on the ground. Getting a good feel for it, Murdock surmised that the robot resembled a large marshmallow, like the thing at the end of Ghostbusters. He always loved that movie as a kid, before the accident. "I will scan you now," Baymax said. Before Murdock could object, Baymax announced that the scan was complete.
"You appear to have suffered multiple lacerations as well as severe trauma. I may be able to help you," Baymax said. Before he could object, Murdock was sprayed by a substance from Baymax's fingers, which stung harshly. Murdock bit his tongue. Baymax then applied a bandage to the area.
"I am afraid I can do nothing else to help you, so I will contact the proper authorities," Baymax stated. Murdock objected to this, saying that his position could be blown. "It is alright, I will do no such thing," Baymax replied. Murdock thanked him.
"I will leave you to what you will do," Baymax said. The robot turned around and walked out of the alley. Murdock slowly brought himself to his feet and noticed the robot leave. Well, that was weird, he thought. HE now had a good idea of where he was, and continued on his way.
