Winry did not like surprises.
Happy surprises were a rarity in the young woman's life, causing her to seek information in a sometimes futile effort to be constantly prepared.
With a drawn out groan and a few last sharp tugs of her favorite wrench, the young mechanic finished tightening up the new prototype automail arm she'd been working on for her favorite, abet most headache inducing client; one who she'd not heard from in weeks. As she stretched with hands locked above her head a sharp call came from downstairs.
"Winry, I suggest you look out the balcony, I believe there is something of a surprise waiting outside!" Pinako called from the kitchen.
Shuffling, out to the wrap-around balcony, she stifled her exasperated comments, knowing that despite her age, Granny Pinako had ears to out hear even a fox.
Along the horizon a large lumpy shape appeared, one that eventually split into two lumpy shadows though one completely dwarfed the other. Eventually the figures left the shadow of the old house ruins, and then she saw them clearly.
The only surprise she ever dare hoped for, was walking down the hill.
Her boys were coming back home.
