Note: Another one I'm not too sure about. I think I must have been in a funny mood when I wrote this last lot of fics. Un-betaed but I've tried to check as much as possible.

The stargate opened and the shield was lowered faster than Elizabeth could react. She threw a glance at the gate technician. "It's Colonel Sheppard's code, with the emergency suffix."

She nodded and touched her radio. "Security and Medical Team to the 'Gate Room."

She didn't register the relevant acknowledgements. Teyla had just run out of the 'gate, her forearm bloody from a shallow bullet wound. The medics that had just arrived led her clear, already removing her sleeve and applying dressings.

Rodney was next out, valiantly assisting a limping Ronon, despite an upper arm and wrist swathed in field dressings. Ronon appeared to have taken a bullet to the leg. How Rodney was able to share the bulky Satedan's weight, Elizabeth would never know.

When John didn't appear immediately behind the two men, Elizabeth looked at the pair. Along with Teyla, they had resisted the medic's attempts to remove them and remained in sight of the active wormhole. The wormhole that had stayed open for an unusually long amount of time with nothing en-route.

Only then did Elizabeth notice the sounds in coming from her earpiece. Heavy breathing dominated, accompanied by the roar of a P90 firing on full automatic. He was keeping his escape route open with the radio signal, but seemed unable to use it.

Elizabeth moved down to the rest of the front-line team to find out what was going on, but before she could summon a question, John's voice sounded over the open channel. "Elizabeth, is everyone safe?"

"Everyone else got through fine."

"Good." There was an odd tone to his voice that Elizabeth couldn't identify. "Get the shield ready. I don't know what'll come through after me."

"We're ready."

The harsh breathing returned, along with more gunfire and the steady sound of running. There was the long exhale of the practice stargate traveller; he was presumably just in front of the 'gate.

The loud crack of a gun.

A dull thud, nearly inaudible.

A sharp inhalation.

Elizabeth, Rodney and Teyla were instantly by the side of the gate, out of the line of fire, but ready to help.

The softest of noises heralded John's emergence, followed by a trio of unstable step as he staggered backwards. His closest friends instinctively took his arms and supported his back, gently slowing his otherwise uncontrolled descent. Their combined strength lowered him to the floor without a bump. Medics gathered around with IVs and bandages.

"Is ev'ry'ne ok'y?"

"Everyone's fine." Elizabeth started,

"G'd." John gave a little satisfied sigh, and closed his eyes.
