Her head felt much lighter now that the pigtails had been taken down, but she would choose that dull ache over her messy black curls any day. He told her she looked "sexy" a word not too commonly used to describe her. She didn't agree, but she was glad he thought so. She actually couldn't imagine how he could find her to be sexy, especially at this moment in time. Her dark hair pumped full of volume from being up for so long, no makeup (as usual) and just an oversized sweater that she could almost wear as a dress.
Typical Jan stood trembling in front of her bed, fingertips within the safety of her mouth as her nails were bitten to their nub. Her small feet turned in, her toes digging into her pink carpet. Her lips quivered and she played with a stray string that hung off of her huge sweater. She didn't know it was possible to be this nervous, after all they both wanted this. They had been together for such a long time. They loved each other which seemed a good a reason as any in the first place. Her heart pounded in her chest and she shook her head.
She gazed at Roger who sat across the room from her amongst her Tweety Bird bed sheets. His broad back was directly up against the headboard, he smiled at her. This set her at a bit more of an ease, his good natured perfect smile. He scratched his bare shoulder and bit his lower lip.
"Jan... wat'sa mattar huh? You ok?" Roger asked gently cocking his head to one side.
"Yeah... I'm fine Rog. Justa lil... nervous."
"What about? Jan this wasn't just my idea remember, I waited till you said when."
She clasped her hands together and put them behind her back, shifting her weight to her heels. "I know, I know but that doesn't stop it from being scary."
Roger sighed, "are you having second thoughts?" he asked quietly. "Because if you're not ready than I'm not ready."
Jan looked into Roger's big blue eyes, his messy blond hair un-greased, his slightly pudgy face. He was being so patient, it made her feel undeserving of how understanding he was. "No thats not it. I know it's been harder for you because of well me."
"Wadda ya talking about now?" Roger asked rolling his eyes.
"How I'm different than the other girls. I'm not like Rizzo or Frenchy, I take this a lot more seriously and I know the guys have given you flack for it and..."
"Jan... stop it!" Roger shouted at her. Jan stared wide eyed at him, that was the first time he had ever raised his voice to her. "I know you're different, and thats exactly why I love you. You are different from any girl I've ever met, and thats why I'm with you. Thats why you wear my ring around your neck... I love you."
Jan's ands flew to her neck, she felt the class of 59 ring that laid against her chest. She inhaled deeply and smiled at Roger.
Roger sighed. "Now if you're not ready than we can just..."
"No" Jan said. She slowly pulled down her yellow panties and kicked them behind her hamper. She walked gently over to her bed and laid down next to Roger. She lightly touched the tip of her nose to his. "I love you too."
