A Hollom oneshot for all the Hollom fangirls out there! I know I can't be the only one!

Disclaimer: I do not own Master and Commander, Hollom(though I sincerly wish I did!), Jack Aubrey, so on and so forth...

He could still see young Will Blakeney above him, screaming his name. But the shot was heavy in his hands, and sooner than he had reckoned, Blakeney had vanished entirely; with him, the Surprise.

He would probably be going to hell for this direct act against God; but it didn't seem too matter to much—he'd simply be trading one hell for a another, albeit a slightly hotter one.

Hollom wrapped his arms tightly around the shot, resisting the automatic reflex to release it and swim back up to the surface. This is for the best. he told himself firmly. The Jonah has gone to meet his judgment.

Jonah. The very name chilled him; the slightest murmur of it scared him. This wasn't what he had planned for himself—not ever. Hell, he hadn't even wanted to be an officer! His father had forced the decision upon him, and he—weak-willed as ever, Hollom thought bitterly—had agreed.

If his father saw what he had become…

A sick knot twisted itself around Hollom's stomach.

By now, all light had vanished. Hollom was sinking in a black oblivion, although not an altogether frightening one. His lungs were screaming for air, and his head ached dully.

Time to go.

A strange sort of serenity enveloped Hollom, and he let go of the shot.

His eyes began to close of their own accord.

And his final thought in this world was:

Lord, please have mercy on me.
