Natsuki 101: Welcome to Class Shizuru

"N-Natsuki… I-" All too quickly Shizuru found herself speechless at what was happening to her. Natsuki – innocent, easily flustered, shy Natsuki – looked so… intimidating right now.
Oh, Shizuru had seen the cold, predatory look in Natsuki's eyes before, on many different occasions. But this was the first in a long time that this look had been sent her way, and never had she seen it with such an enormous amount of emotion behind it. Panic, something Shizuru could only remember echoes of feeling before, gripped her heart, and she took an unconscious step back.
Natsuki's gaze never wavered and Shizuru found herself unable to look away. "N-Na…" Her throat tightened when Natsuki took the first step towards her, and she almost whimpered when the next step came. Each of Natsuki's foot falls echoed loudly in Shizuru's ears and for every slow step Natsuki took towards her, Shizuru took two steps back. Yet, still, still Natsuki only seemed to come closer to her and when Shizuru's back hit the door to her study the whimper finally escaped.
She finally managed to tear her eyes away from those frighteningly deep emerald pools and looked elsewhere, anywhere. She refused to look, even as Natsuki came close enough for Shizuru to feel the warmth of her breath on her face. Her eyes closed even as she fought to slow her racing heart. Oh how, how had it come to this? She had only meant for it to be an innocent tease, and now… now…
"Shizuru." Natsuki commanded with that simple utterance of her name, and Shizuru could not disobey. Tentatively, she opened her eyes only to be greeted with emerald so fierce that Shizuru felt her knees weaken from the intensity of its gaze. What had she done to deserve this?
"Na-tsuki… I…"
I what?
Natsuki's face inched closer and as she did, her gaze softened. Shizuru breathed out, and the instant before their lips met, her eyes widened as she realized the truth of the situation.
The smirk she felt against her lips was enough to confirm it. Natsuki effectively had her trapped.
She had had Shizuru at her mercy. Natsuki had tricked her!
And all too soon it didn't matter.

Author's Note:
Well, this was originally intended to be my introduction to the Mai HiME fandom, but there were a few… problems. Something about it was off. Months later after successfully uploading two short and one not so short fanfics under the Mai HiME category I returned to this fic and asked myself, "What's wrong with this?"
After reading it over I managed to locate the source (it was quite obvious actually, enough to have me embarrassed) in a single word in the line "Natsuki had seduced her!" Oh the embarrassment I felt at it. This was not a seduction, this was a trick! A well timed move by Natsuki to tease the teaser! A lesson in the complicated being that was Natsuki Kuga; a lesson Shizuru is sure not to forget.
I marveled at how a single word managed to throw off an entire story!
But, alas, it has been corrected, and though this ficlet is still not perfect it is good enough. And now, as my laptop battery dies, I save this fic, which I now deem "Completed".
