"You're not wearing that, are you?" Preston asked Dana, looking disgusted.
"What?" Dana asked. She looked down at her outfit. What was wrong with her casual short-sleeved light blue dress? "But this is the only dress I have."
"This is a formal event, Miss Pines," Preston said. "Formal wear only."
"It's okay, dad," Patterson said. "I'm on it."
Patterson brought Dana to a separate room in the mansion. It looked like some kind of makeover room. "The employees will work on your hair and face," Patterson explained. "Hopefully they will be able to improve your disgusting appearance."
And so, the makeover began. The hairstylist took off the young brunette's hat and began washing her messy hair. After being told to close her eyes, Dana felt makeup being applied to her face. She sat calmly as the employees pampered her, although she didn't like it. She was a bit of a tomboy, not some kind of princess. This whole beauty thing was making her feel uncomfortable.
When Dana was told she could open her eyes, she was given a handheld mirror. "What do you think?" one of the employees asked.
Dana was shocked. Staring at her was a complete stranger with gorgeous curls and a flawless face. Her eyelids were covered in silvery-blue eyeshadow and her cheeks were bright pink. She blinked, confirming that this stranger really was her.
"It feels weird," Dana admitted. She wasn't lying. It felt weird looking so...feminine. She honestly hoped this ghost-catching thing wouldn't last long so she could go back to her old self.
After recovering from the initial shock, Dana was escorted to a dressing room, where she was given a gorgeous blue gown that had butterflies decorated on the sleeves. So she took off her dress and put the gown on. She was also given a pair of crystal high heels that matched the butterfly theme of the gown, so she took of her socks and sneakers and put the elegant shoes on.
Dana looked at her reflection in the dressing room mirror to see the finish results. She was completely unhappy with what she saw. She didn't see herself at all. She saw a living doll who was dressed up to only look pretty. She knew right away that this wasn't her. She was presenting a false image. What were the others going to say when they saw her.
The brunette girl heard Patterson clear his throat from outside the dressing room. "Are you done?" he asked.
Dana emerged from the dressing room with a frown on her face. "Geez, these shoes are hurting my feet!" she complained. "Who do you guys think you're impressing with this stuff?"
"Everyone," Patterson answered as sprayed perfume on Dana's wrists, making her smell like flowers. "You wouldn't understand. High standards are what make the Southeast family great."
"Funny, I thought it was lying about founding the town," Dana said as Patterson led her to wherever this ghost was. After all, she could worry about her appearance some other time. After all, this makeover wasn't going to affect her at all.
One Ghost Hunt Later...
Dana felt beautiful as Patterson twirled her around on the dance floor. She didn't care who was watching. Sure she had problems with looking like a princess, but after hearing the town local compliment her, she started to accept it.
And as the two kids danced, Dana let out a small giggle. She couldn't help it. She felt that special. Here she was dancing with a boy so rich that he might as well be some kind of prince and all eyes were on her in amazement. She couldn't believe it either. After all, she was merely a commoner in a fancy ball.
Marcus was right. For tonight, local tomboy Dana Pines had become Princess CinDanarella: the belle of this year's Southeast ball, and she wouldn't have it any other way.
The End
