Cold Nights

Jazmine

Jazmine Dubois woke up, turning over to look at her boyfriend whom had a permanent scowl on his face, even when he slept. She and Huey Freeman had been going out since she was 16 years old. It wasn't a shock to anyone besides she was the only girl that would stay around Huey no matter the harsh things he said. It only made sense they would end up together. Hazel eyes looked at what would be brown, she sighed getting out of bed and she made her way to the bathroom.

It was about a year into their relationship when Jazmine gave up on strong romantic gestures from Huey. She learned to accept the little things from him and convinced herself it was enough. Jazmine, the girl who doesn't give up hope, was overtaken by the harsh reality of Huey Freeman and was swept up by his intellectual mind, and, though some small part of her hoped they would engage in a truly passionate relationship Huey had made it painfully obvious that, that wasn't going to happen.

Jazmine got to the bathroom pulling her straightened chestnut brown hair into a ponytail, she stripped last night pajamas of grey cotton sweatpants and oversized pink t-shirt off. Running the shower. A loud bang could be heard followed by the drunken curses of a male only a couple years younger than her. Riley Freeman was here. She ignored the man returning her focus to her shower. She got in, letting the hot water and steam settle into her muscles and relax her. She closed her eyes and sighed heavily.

"You know if you didn't work so hard, you wouldn't be so stressed."

Jazmine's eye shot opening widening in surprise. She hadn't heard him come in and was appalled he'd intrude on her in such a private state. Riley Freeman leaned casually against the wooden door letting most of the hot air escape the bathroom. Jazmine slid the glass door open a bit poking her head out, though it was futile since the glass was see through anyway.

"Go away Riley." Jazmine stated blandly, not concerned for her modesty.

"Why should I?" she shrugged, a smug smirk settling on his face.

Pause. "Because you're drunk and obnoxious."

Riley shrugged nonchalantly, scanning her body before leaving her in the bathroom. Jasmine leaned back and sighed exhaustedly as the steam rose into her sinuses making it easier to breathe. She heard the door open this time, "Riley I TOLD YOU TO GET OUT!" Jazmine yelled frustrated this man couldn't leave her alone. She poked her head out the steam obscured glass door to find Huey staring at her with his arms crossed and eyebrow raised.

"Oh. I thought you were Riley." Jazmine said, her voice going meek. She turned off the water and grabbed her white fluffy towel, stepping out of the shower.

"No." Huey replied monotonously.

Jazmine stepped towards her boyfriend kissing him on the cheek, trying to get his lips.

"You know I'm trying to pee, right?" his tone implying she was crazy for trying to kiss him.

"So?" She questioned, her head tilting in the way a puppy might tilt its head for taking away its favorite toy.

"So, that's weird." She knew this tone. It was the "you're getting on my nerves, Jazmine" tone. She shrugged walking out the bathroom the towel still wrapped around her damp body. Going back to her and Huey's room Jazmine grabbed her clothes and various body lotions. Technically it was Huey's room, he never asked her to move in but he didn't oppose when she did. Huey came in a couple of moments after while she was still dressing. He used to knock and wait for her to finish dressing, but, since it took her so long he would eventually lose patience and walk into the room anyway. He went to his desk turning his computer on, as he always did in the morning. Huey took a multitude of his college classes online, claiming he couldn't stand even the minuscule racism showed by a college professor.

"School is just a white ran institution to control what we [black people] learn in an attempt to keep us oppressed. I don't buy it." His stony scowl set in a disapproving way; the one time Jazmine asked him why he don't go to classes.

Jazmine laid on the bed, in just her black bra and panty set, as she watched him. She loved to watch him work, the way he concentrated on things that were important to him and how the scowl was subdued from his ever scowling face. She would yearn for him to look at her like that, without disapproval, to just see her as something important. Jazmine was lost in her own world when Huey announced he was leaving.

"Jazmine." He was standing over her, fully dressed and showered, his backpack slung over his right shoulder. She would often zone out for long periods of time like this.

"Hm?" she looked at him, a small frown settling into her usually cheerful features. He had his red and black backpack, meaning he was going to the library. Meaning he was most likely be seeing Shirah. Jazmine never met Shirah before but she knew about her from what others said.

Shirah was the type of girl everyone thought would end up with Huey Freeman. She was a beautiful girl, dark skinned with long curly hair and she cared for African American culture, much like Huey. She was well traveled and brought many different perspectives to issues Jazmine couldn't even begin to understand. She was stubborn and gave Huey a run for his money. In Jazmine's mind she was the female version of Huey and she was perfect, in almost every way Huey was perfect.

"I'm leaving." Huey deadpanned looking down at her. Jazmine scrambled from her current position to get out of the bed, she hopped up and kissed Huey on the lips forcefully. He looked at her, his eyebrow arched and arms folded. "bye." He left, saying nothing else not even acknowledging the kiss.

Jazmine fell back on the bed, biting her lip to keep the tears at bay. She didn't feel worthy to be with him anymore but she loved him. Against her wishes the tears fell and she covered her mouth as the sobs raked her entire body.

Riley

Riley rolled his eyes. Jazmine was crying again. He bought the blunt to his lips inhaling, he exhaled slowly, the smoke cascading from his mouth. He looked down on the girl on her knees at the moment her mouth wrapped around his dick, her head bobbing up and down trying to desperately pleasure him. He rolled his eyes, the girl was cute but she needed to work on her blow job skills. He ran his fingers through her dark hair then gripped her locks tightly, pushing her head further down causing her to gag. She tapped his thigh repeatedly to let her up but he held her there for a moment. After a couple more seconds he let her up. She gasped.

"You're such a jerk." She spat, a mixture of his pre-cum and her spit landing on the floor by his shoe.

Riley's eyebrow arched, still holding her hair Riley bought her face to his, "Next time you spit, I'll make you lick it up like the bitch you are." Before she could respond he pressed his lips to hers and grabbed her waist. He lifted her on his lap. The blunt still held steadily between his fingers, he inhaled, and this time when he exhaled he would kiss her. His smoke rose from her nose, getting her giddy. This girl was a lightweight and was already on a level Riley was trying to achieve. She kissed his neck sloppily, giggling every now and then.

"Does that feel good?" she giggled into his neck, grinding against his penis.

He rolled his eyes again, setting lazily into the couch "shut up and suck."

She dropped on her knees, happily sucking his dick. Girls were always eager to please Reezy. They wanted him as much as he didn't want them.

Huey

Huey sat across from Shirah. She wore a thin grey hoodie and black shorts. Her sleeves were rolled up showing off her many tattoos. Huey never cared for the idea of tattoos but on Shirah they made so much sense.

"How's Jazmine?" Shirah asked, tapping the bottom of her vape lightly against the table, a pencil carelessly tucked into her messy bun, a stack of books he suggested for her were near her arm. Huey took her in, he couldn't deny his attraction to the girl but he was with Jazmine and she was probably with someone as well. Huey and Shirah's relationship was intellectual and friendly. They clicked well but not too well.

"She's the same." Huey said looking back to the book Shirah suggested for him. He was reading the summary while subtly checking her out.

Shirah sighed.

"What?" Huey asked putting the book down to look into her dark brown eyes.

"The same isn't an answer Huey." Shirah crossed her arms, "Are you sure she's okay with you spending so much time with me? I mean I haven't even met her yet."

"Yeah, she's fine." Huey looked away from her back to the book.

"Well she must be cool cause I know I wouldn't be." She said.

"She knows me." Huey said not looking at her.

Shirah frowned, standing up and looking down at Huey. "I'm leaving." She said , gathering her books. "Go home to Jazmine." She left. Leaving Huey at the table alone.

Huey frowned, getting up and leaving the books at the table, he followed Shirah out the library onto the sidewalk. "Shirah." he didn't yell. Huey never found it necessary to yell at people other than his brother.

Shirah turned around her hands planted on her hips, "What?" She matched his tone and her eyebrow was even arched much like how Huey's eyebrow usually arched.

"You're mad at me." it was a statement not a question.

"What are we doing Huey? You have a girlfriend that loves you. You should be with her."

It was Huey's turn to raise his eyebrow, "What are you taking about?"

"US!" It was the first time she ever raised her voice towards him, "Huey, you don't even consider Jazmine's feelings or mine."

"We're friends."

"Well I don't want to be your friend."

"What are you saying?"

"I'm saying you need to go home and be with your girlfriend." A scowl was set on Shirah's face.

Huey sighed. Shirah left him. He went home.
