E/O Drabble Challenge: Word – Shoe

A/N #1: One hundred words on the dot. Thanks for letting me play the Drabble Game. Sorry this is
late, computer didn't want to download it. Guess it was tired from all the holiday stress. lol. This
little scene is set pre-season, before Sam left for Stanford. Hope you enjoy.
A/N #2: I'm sorry that I used an eggcorn this week: shoe-in instead of shoo-in, but I really wanted
to use this particular phrase, so I did... hehe.
A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes
Dean sits, hands clasped loosely. "Open it Sammy."
Sam clutches the slim envelope tightly, meets his brother's sober gaze, whispers miserably. "I can't." He's holding a fragile dream... deathly afraid of its destruction.
Dean smirks sadly. "Aw, you're a shoe-in with that geeky brain." Reaches to gently pat a knee in reassurance, adds gruffly. "You don't have to be afraid."
Sam sighs, a relieved smile lights his face... concentrates on the encouraging words, not the sadness shadowing his big brother's face. "Thanks Dean." Carefully opens the envelope, embracing the dream.
Dean watches his own dream die as the envelope tears.
