A/N: This is set just before the 'fire side' scene in 'The Hound of Baskerville,' just a little idea about what Sherlock might have been doing before John came to join him; has a slight foreshadow/tie-in with 'The Reichenbach Fall.'
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
I Need You
I need you.
His thumb hovered over the 'send' button as he regarded the message, wanting desperately to add something but unable to deny that it really was just that simple.
He needed her.
His body had betrayed him: he felt vulnerable and afraid; made worse by his unaccountable desire for comfort which was at war with his more rational impulse to force the emotions aside.
What shocked him the most, however, was that in his present state there was only one person he felt equal to seeing, one person who he could trust at his moment of weakness.
And that person wasn't John Watson, but Molly Hooper.
Although he saw it almost as a betrayal of his friend, Molly Hooper was the only person he knew that would accept how he was feeling without comment and provide the comfort that he…craved.
His eyes widened a little in fear and shock at the thought of craving something as simple as Molly calming his fears.
Perhaps his body had betrayed him more than he thought; was it possible…?
He covered his start as John came to join him by the fire, breaking him from his musings. He hastily deleted the message and hid his phone from view as John sat down.
He would need all of his considerable skills at dissembling to prove to John that he was stronger than his body, he couldn't do that if the doctor were to find out about his impulse to run to Molly.
He shied away from the thought and his tone took on a dangerous, almost panicked, edge as his continued to speak to John.
The revelation that Molly Hooper was the person he trusted with his weaknesses was a mystery that would have to wait for another time.
