"EVERYBODY GET DOWN!" A voice booms, silencing the convenience store shoppers of their helpless squeals. The owner of the voice marches through the sea of people, casually forcing any resisters to the ground with a flick of his tail-like appendage. His eyes scan the crowd, searching for any possible signs of resistance.
He is pleased by what he sees.
"My lackeys are going to walk around with these black sacks," he announces loudly while holding one up as an example, "Place your valuables in them." He smacks the ground with his gigantic, reptilian tail, "Any disobedience will be met with a corresponding punishment. And you won't like it." He finishes with a hiss.
A light fixture explodes and once again, the store is filled with sounds of distress.
"QUIET!" He shouts before leaning a bit forward, as if telling his hostages something scandalous and secret, "Quiet. It's only a damn light, you fools. Just put your valuables in the fuckin' bags before somebody gets hurt!"
Ajisai has to wonder how her life has led her to this moment. A lackey approaches her with his sack and she can feel her body tensing up. She doesn't want to play along with these villains' shenanigans. She's actually very tempted to say something snarky, but she absolutely does not want to die a useless 19-year-old college drop-out who works full-time at a convenience store.
In fact, she chose the damn job in the first place because its fatality rate is so low! So why, pray tell, is she currently held in a hostage situation with some fucking dinosaur-snake-man calling the shots?
Where the fuck are the heroes?
She scowls at the lackey as he yanks her necklace off of her neck and throws it into his sack because first of all, ow, and second of all, she got that shit for three whole dollars at the clearance section of her local Dal-Mart so it has to be absolutely worthless. And? Is he seriously patting her down right now? Ew. She kicks a grabby hand away to signal that she absolutely does not enjoy a stranger patting her ass for any items she could possibly have in her back pocket. They can CLEARLY see that she has NOTHING in there.
For real, where the hell are the heroes?
Ajisai wanted to be a hero too at one point, you know. She has a strong quirk and she's always been pretty good at multitasking. She just didn't realize, at the time, how hard it would be to get into a hero-oriented high school though, so she gave up after failing one exam. She then thought that she could at least take the business course and help run a hero agency, but she ended up losing motivation halfway through her first year and barely had enough credits to graduate high school in the first place. And then she attempted to complete a business and marketing degree in college, but you know how that went.
It was too hard so she quit and began working at this dump.
But now, in a life-or-death hostage shituation, Ajisai is deeply regretting not trying harder to accomplish her original dream of becoming a hero.
"Become a convenience store worker," They said, "it'll be fun!"
Lies. ALL. LIES.
She should never have dropped out of school. She is slightly frightened, but calm. She attended U.A., damn it, and she might not have trained to become a hero, but she's received enough training to know how to keep her heart rate low.
"C'mon," She whispers to herself as she digs through her foggy high school memories, "How do you handle a hostage situa-"
Her thoughts are interrupted with a cry.
"Please," A woman sobs, "Don't hurt my child!"
She crawls over towards the boy— who Ajisai assumes was kicked, to shield him from further harm, but the woman is soon pinned by the tail of Dino-man.
Ajisai watches, as calmly as she can bring herself to, as the child cries, but there's heat rising to her head and wrinkles forming that she knows were not there before. Her fellow hostages all watch the scene unfold with bated breath. She clenches her fists.
The heartless villain cackles as one of his thugs kicks the child again. "I warned you didn't I?" He asked, "I said that there would be punishments!"
The child cries for his mother.
"Hey." Ajisai says under her breath. It isn't a conscious decision. She wants to stop them, but she's not quite fully committed to the idea yet.
She hasn't had combat training since her first year of high school, and even then, it was just basic self defense stuff.
Her shift manager, lying on the floor beside her, shakes his head.
"Don't do it," he mouths, "don't."
But the thug kicks the child again, and Ajisai knows that she will never forgive herself if she lies idly by while some villain terrorizes an innocent mother and child. She may be mean, and uncaring, and a little useless, but she does have pride as a graduate of U.A., regardless of how close she was to failing.
"Hey." She says a little louder this time, although; with her husky voice, it comes out more like a growl. She rolls with it. "I wouldn't do that if I were you."
She inwardly cringes. What a cheesy line? She seriously couldn't have thought of anything better? Gross.
The villain whips his head around to look at her. Like, completely. Like an owl. Ajisai wants to vomit. Ew. She gets that he can't help what he was born with but ew. How creepy.
"Oh?" He asks incredulously, "And who's going to stop me? A little girl like you?"
Despite her manager's protests, Ajisai stands up. She's definitely a lot larger than your average Japanese girl, standing at 5'8 and weighing around 160 pounds— more or less. But she is completely dwarfed by this creepy lizard villain. He's what? 6'10? Definitely did not seem that large when he was standing further away and she was on the floor.
She inhales because whatever is going to happen next will hurt like hell and she has to mentally prepare herself for it.
"Yes." She replies simply, "Pick on someone your own size."
GOD DAMN IT. She inwardly cringes again. She's been watching too many American superhero movies and she detests the fact that she just said that. She wishes she had a time control quirk so that she can redo that, but it's too late now. The villain snaps his tail forward, toward her, and she shuts her eyes completely to focus her energy.
Her fellow hostages scream.
Meanwhile, she's just thinking about how she hasn't done this in a while.
Ajisai shoots her arms forward and blood spurts everywhere as green vines shoot out of her fingertips in varying levels of thickness and wrap around the villain's tail. Her eyes tear up a little. Using her quirk hurts like hell.
"What the fuck?!" Reptile-man screams as he wiggles his tail, attempting to break free, but Ajisai won't let him. The vines keep growing thicker and the skin at her fingertips keep ripping further, but she doesn't mind.
It's for a good cause.
Now the other hostages are in full view of their savior, and they take note of the scars and stitches littered all over her arms and body, decorating her face. The smart ones conclude that it is through quirk-use that her body has become what it is. Mutilated.
"You moronic fucktards!" Lizard screeches, now panicked, "Stop her!"
They can try, but they don't appear to affect her.
Sure, it hurts like hell, but her vines immediately stitch up any puncture wounds and Ajisai doesn't mind being a punching bag for a couple of minutes if it means that no one else will get hurt until the heroes arrive. She grits her teeth and she continues to grow her vines. The more the thugs try to cut those, the thicker they grow.
She can do this.
She can do it.
When she finally thinks that she's had enough and she tosses the villain clear to the other side of the store in a vine-burrito, a wall suddenly erupts and she knows that her saviors have appeared.
"Everybody shut the hell up!" A dark figure veiled in smoke shouts, "Ground Zero is here!"
"Fucking finally!" She shouts back as the smoke clears and the blond hero scans the room.
He takes one look at her bloodied form before marching up to her and pointing with an accusatory finger.
"The hell do you think you're doing, villain?"
"V-villain?" She sputters, "What the f-"
"You better answer carefully," He growls, sparks flying out of his palms, "Who the hell do you think you are?"
"I don't- I'm not-" Ajisai's eyes are wide with disbelief.
What in tarnation?
Ground Zero's patience grows thin and he raises a sparkly hand threateningly.
"Are you FUCKING kidding me?" She stomps her foot and waves her arms in exasperation, "Your stupid villain is over there!" She points at the green burrito in the corner.
"Never fucking mind! I'm tired as fuck and everything hurts. I'm glad I'm not a fucking hero, you prick-"
"Hah?! The fuck do you mean-"
"Just take your damn villain and go-"
The world turns black and the last thing she remembers are strong arms catching her fall and a very angry pair of red eyes.

He rewinds the security camera footage again and closely analyzes the way she handles her quirk. She's not an amateur, he can tell that much.
He glances at her files lying on the coffee table in front of him, next to the laptop. She's a graduate of a U.A.'s business track, a year below him. Definitely not an amateur. And she actually placed decently during her first year sport's festival. As a business student.
He just can't wrap his mind around it.
Why the fuck was someone so talented left to waste as a full-time convenience store worker?
Bakugou stares at the girl lying on the hospital bed before him. He has questions, and she will answer.

Ren Ajisai
Power: Vine Muscles
Ajisai does not have organic "human" muscles and instead has vines. These vines can rip through her skin (which hurts like hell, if you haven't gotten the message yet) and can be utilized as tendrils/tentacles/whips. Once Ajisai is done with her vines, she can use thin vines to stitch together the damaged skin. Her skin will heal over time at a normal pace. Ajisai's limbs technically can't be severed, since her vines can just reattach said limbs. Even decapitation won't kill her. However, she still feels pain from severed limbs and can still suffer from stab/puncture wounds (if she can't stitch them in time), bleeding out, and burning like normal people do. In fact, burning is probably her ultimate weakness.
At the moment, while Ajisai doesn't know the limit to how many vines she can control at once, her current length limit is 12 feet. Like normal muscles, vine muscles can strengthen over time with frequent exercise. Also similarly to normal muscles, extraneous use of vine muscles will cause an extremely sore and fatigued body for the following days. If the vines themselves are severed from Ajisai's body, they can't be reused. Ajisai will be forced to stitch up her skin without the severed vines and will lose that muscle definition until she regains it again by eating properly and working out. Ajisai is basically in a constant state of pain due to the fact that her broken skin heals at the average pace and her body is littered with bruises, tears, and stitches. This is the main contributing factor to her sustained state of anger.
