Today is the day. The day of the reaping. I stood patiently and calm waiting to hear the tributes from my district. I am from District 3, a very technological place. This year my name would be put in four times, increasing the odds. My name is Elwood Granger, I live in a relatively small house with my two siblings Morgan and Willard, and they are both under the age to participate for the Hunger Games. My father, who is a technological engineer. My mother passed away, a few years ago from an "incident" near a power line.

The Mayor stood up on stage and gave the same speech that was said every year, moments after the usual speech the escort came and was preparing to choose the tributes. She looked rather odd; she had glowing green hair, an odd tattooed face and dressed in a very trashy manner. That seemed to be the usual in Panem now, she pulled up the first slip and eagerly said, "For the female tribute, Evelinn McGraur!" She walked up to the stage trying to keep in her tears of sadness, behind her watching her mother and father weeping of the daughter they once had.

I have never really known Evelinn, she was a year younger than me and was very quiet at school, she kept to herself and kept it that way. I don't really know much about her, only that she will struggle in the Games.

We all prepared for the next person that would be tribute, I had a bad feeling about who it would be and had no idea what I would expect. She slowly pulled out the slip of paper and read very clearly, the name I hoped would not be picked, "For the Male tribute...Elwood Granger!" I was not prepared, neither was my family. I paced myself to the stage, not looking behind only ahead. I heard the sobs of my family slowly fading away. I did not cry, I did not sob, I accepted my terrible fate.
