I do not own Glee or any of its characters. This has spoilers for Duets.
"Finn, Rachel," Will called as the rest of the Glee Club members were leaving. He needed to talk to both of them after their performance for the duets. It wasn't enough to just call on them publically about how horrible their duet had been. It was more than just that. He led the pair into his office and closed the door as the students took the seats across from his desk. "What were the two of you thinking?"
"That it would be a good song," Rachel started, cutting Finn off before he could say anything. "And it was."
"Not the way that you two represented each other," Will said, looking at Finn. "Finn? Have anything to add?"
Finn shifted uncomfortably in his seat before he looked at Rachel. "I'm sorry – we need to tell him. Mostly so we don't get into more trouble." He looked at Will. "We're throwing the competition so that Sam could win."
Will sat back in his seat. "Why?"
"To make him feel welcome," Rachel replied. "I've been having some soul searching and realizing that I'm selfish. That I only do things when the end result benefits me. If Sam wins, he'll want to stay in Glee Club."
"So then we'll win Sectionals and Regionals," Finn replied. "Don't apply logic to it. It'll just make her mad."
"It did not make me mad," Rachel said in defense of herself.
Will looked a bit amused at hearing that. "Well, it's admirable that you did that. But there was a better way to go about this."
"How?" Rachel asked.
"Do the best of your ability and vote for Sam anyways," Will replied. "And trust in your fellow Glee members to notice your talents."
"Okay," Finn said and then thought of something. "Are we going to be in trouble because of our duet?"
"No," Will replied. "Just don't do it again."
"We won't, Mister Shue," Rachel said as she got up. "In fact, I'm going to go change now," she said and left the room.
Finn removed his priest's collar and shrugged. "It used to be easier, right Mister Shue?"
"It was," Will said with a bit of a smile. "We'll get Sam just as good as you are, Finn."
"I hope so," Finn said. "About that thought – "
"You're captain with Rachel until they vote you out," Will replied. "I'm not going to change that and I doubt they're going to vote you out. Unless you two continue to throw competitions like you did today. So don't do it again. I did mean it when I said that I was disappointed in the both of you. I know that the both of you can do better as does the rest of the club."
"Right," Finn said with a nod as he got up and left the office. "Thanks Mister Shue," he called back.
Will sighed and shook his head. He let Finn leave, just sitting at his desk and letting everything about the day and the duets competition sink in.
