Chapter 1: Help for Jerome
As I sat there, wallowing in my misery, I couldn't help but wonder, "Why did she have to choose him?"
I always came in second to everyone: my parents, my life, and now to Mara. I mean, I put on a front of the uncaring prankster, but really underneath I felt unwanted and... unloved.
Ugh, now I sounded like a girl.
I knew I couldn't just sit there forever, but sometimes it felt nice for me to just think. At least that gave me a good chance to stop and think.
Just then, Alfie barged in, "Hey, man. Are you ok? TRUDY!"
"Alfie! Jeez, did you really have to do that? Have you ever heard of just letting people be?"
The next thing I knew, Trudy was there and Alfie- gone.
"What's wrong sweetie?"
Before I could stop myself, I started pouring out my problems to her about everything, even Mara. She just made me open up, kind of like a mom. Just talking about it made me tear up. At the same time, the burden I was carrying with the problem and the actual problem instantly seemed lighter.
"Thanks Trudy. I really needed that." I choked out.
"Oh, it's all right sweetie. Now, about that Mara thing, I always have been a fan of Jara, if I do say so myself. "
"What?" Okay, now I was confused. I had also been hearing snippets about this so-called "Jara" from Amber, although I had no idea what the heck it was.
"Don't fret either: I have the perfect plan to get you and Mara together." she continued on.
