Lisa Cuddy sighs as she walks into a local café in cheap flip flops; an early pair of maternity jeans slung low on her hips, exposing a small section of tanned stretchmarked skin between their top and the bottom of her gray tshirt. Large sunglasses were perched on top of her mass of dark curls, reflecting the lights away from her face. A large Coach purse was perched on her shoulder as one hand clutched a pink car seat and the other held a Liz Claiborne laptop bag and her briefcase. She sets her daughter up on the counter and orders a mocha before staring at the menu for a moment.
"Can I get a breakfast sandwich made with just egg whites?"
"We actually don't customize the eggs at all." Lisa nods before looking around a bit.
"I guess I'll have a whole grain bagel and a plain bagel both toasted with raspberry cream cheese…and a bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich with extra bacon and cheese…and just a mug for coffee."
"Alright, that's going to be….14.87." Lisa hands over her credit card and moves to the side waiting for her bagels. She takes them and the rest of her things as well as her daughter over to a larger table. She picks the small child up in her arms, kissing her soft hair as she goes to pick up her drink, licking at a bit of the whipped cream as she walks back. She sits down at the table and thanks one of the employees when he brings the sandwich over. Lisa looks at the small girl that was just waking up and smiles softly. She sits her up on her lap and kisses her head softly.
"Hey angel…" The small baby girl yawns and sighs softly before blinking heavily at her mother with her grey blue eyes.
"You hungry Lily bear?" Lily yawns again and stretches out before starting to make suckling motions with her mouth. Lisa gets her latched on and sighs softly as she rubs her back, smiling as a tall lanky figure takes a seat across from her.
"You always seem to show up for the good part." Lisa pushes the breakfast sandwich and mug of coffee towards House as she takes a sip of her mocha starting to eat her bagels. The three of them eat in silence for a while before Lily pulls away. Lisa burps her and kisses her head before handing her to House as she starts to work.
"Hey Lilypad." Lily stuffs her hands in her mouth and sighs as she looks at her father.
"You ever think we'd be here?"
"Where?"
"I don't know…here, with Lily…our baby." House shakes his head as his daughter gazes at him with his own deep blue eyes.
"No." Lisa smiles and finishes off her plain bagel before scooting closer to House. She kisses his cheek softly and steals a bite of his breakfast sandwich as she continues to work.
"But I hoped."
