(Nudge's POV)
I wake up to a muffled sound I can't identify. Are there M-Geeks? Are we under attack? Wouldn't Iggy have warned us if we were? He is on guard duty isn't he? OMG! Oh, no! What if Iggy was kidnapped? Oh, wait! Maybe the noise was someone good coming! Fang! Maybe Fang is coming! OMG! Max would be, like, so happy! She would, like, totally deny it, but we all know she still loves him. Remember how devastated she was when he left in the first place?
Nudge! I silently shut myself up. Maybe the flock is right. I do talk a lot. Anyway, the noise, what is it? I gasp. It's crying! But the flock hardly ever cries. I wonder who it is? I stand up and look around. Max is sleeping and Iggy is by the fire on guard duty, so OMG! It must be Gazzy!
"Gazzy? What's wrong? Are you hurt?" I ask.
"Nudge? Oh, I, Um… No. I'm not hurt," Gazzy stammers, obviously embarrassed at being caught crying.
"It's okay, Gazzy. Don't worry. I won't tell anyone. And anyway, Iggy's, like, way over there and Max is sleeping. I won't tell anyone you were crying, I mean are upset. Not that it's not okay to be upset," I cut myself off so Gazzy won't have to.
"You can trust me. What's wrong?" I ask quietly.
"It's nothing, Nudge. It's just…" he whispers, wiping away his tears.
"Just what, Gazzy?" I pry. Okay, so I'm curious, but I also want to help Gazzy. I hate seeing the flock upset.
"It's just I miss Angel. She's my sister. I love the flock, believe me, I do. Byt angel's my sister and she's gone, and-" Gazzy says, his voice cracking, "and it's all my fault."
"Gazzy! No! No, it's not your fault! I promise! You did the best you could with those bombs. If you couldn't do it then there's no way anyone else could have. And… We will get Angel back. I mean, she's not gone gone," I assure him.
"You don't know that," Gazzy whispers.
"You don't know that she's alive either. And Gazzy? You aren't alone. We all love Angel and miss her. She may not be related to us by blood, but we love her just the same. She was practically a daughter to Max," I tell him. He wipes the tears off his face and smiles up at me.
"Thanks, Nudge, really," he says.
"No problem. You know I love to talk. Oh, and Gazzy, there's nothing at all wrong with missing her. You don't have to get embarrassed. I miss her, too," I say as I get back under my blanket.
"Hey, Nudge? There's nothing wrong with talking either."
