From Darkness to Light

Where am I…?

Only the soft drip... drip... dripping and the sound of gnashing teeth reply.

Who am I…?

Only the soft tap... tap... tapping and the sound of gnashing teeth reply.

Why oh why am I here…?

Only the glowing red eyes and the sound of gnashing teeth reply.

Slowly, oh so slowly, I move forwards, legs like lead, arms of iron, a mind bogged down by a vast expanse of blackness, dim as jet, black as obsidian. Like a sinking stone in the darkness.

The shimmering eyes only watch, a deep crimson piercing the darkness, the sound of clattering teeth slowly becoming louder.

The swish of a tail, the soft swoop of the air.

The tap... tap... tapping of feet against cold, hard darkness weighed down like lead weights under a mile long ocean. Stumbling, fumbling in the darkness. Oh that vast expanse of darkness. As endless as the void of my mind.

The sparkling red eyes only watch, the chink of something on stone echoes around the vast expanse of darkness.

Still I move, my core like molten iron, seeping, burning, fading…

The gnashing of teeth, the swoosh of a tail on air, the chink of something on stone. The drip... drip... dripping.

Still Glowing red eyes only watch.

A new pair of footsteps pierces the dark, moving faster than mine.

My heavy steps continue, stumbling and shaking in the darkness.

Still the greedy eyes watch, drinking me in.

Footsteps… footsteps piercing the darkness like sword on stone, sparks fly.

Closer they come, and further the eyes.

Sparks, light in the dark, hope where there is none.

Clap! Clap! Clap! The sound of feet on cold hard darkness. Bolts of light, piercing the night.

Suddenly, I am drawn into her embrace.

Warmth floods my body. Cold from this world, this place, my own mind.

Slowly, I raise my stiff arms. And wrap them around her.

I open my eyes and turn on the light.

There was no monster. No clashing teeth, no swish of a tail, no chinks of something on stone. No drip, drip, dripping. Only me, myself and I, two sides of the same coin, on which both sides contrasted.

Slowly, oh so, so slowly, the blood returned to my veins. The warmth flooded me entirely. A tear brimmed from my eye, falling softly on the ground, no drip, drip, dripping. Only a single soft splash. And for once, my limbs are no longer heavy, no longer holding the weight of the sky that had once crushed down on me, seemingly immovable. No, now they were strong. And for once, I was no longer full of that darkness. I was free of those harsh, red eyes.

A/N: So I was on Facebook browsing through my newsfeed like I usually do when I came across this masterpiece. I asked the author of this story if I could upload it to my fanfic account and I got permission! Yay me! I think I'm doing him/her some justice by spreading their work, don't you think?

So what do you guys think of it? Was it as good as I think it is? I made a few minor changes here and there but they don't disrupt the original plot of the story, I hope you don't mind.

I own nothing but the title. Credit goes to the admin ~Sage of the Facebook page, Killer Bee The Jinchurikii. Go and like the page, it's awesome!
