Another Thomas rewrite, this time it's the classic "Rusty and the Boulder" from Season 5, with lines by tate310. Enjoy and comment.

On the Island of Sodor, high in the mountains, laid a mysterious boulder. It stood alone for a very long time, until one day, when workmen arrived to build a quarry on the land below.

Rusty, the little diesel, met Thomas and Percy.

"Where's all this rock coming from?" Percy asked

"The new quarry." replied Rusty. "This mountain rock is good for many things, although it's dangerous up there!"

"Why?" asked Thomas.

"Because of a big boulder. I think it's watching me!" said Rusty nervously.

"But how can that be possible?" asked Percy. "Boulders don't have eyes. They can't see."

"That's right Percy!" laughed his driver.

"But there's something different about this one."

Just then, Edward arrived at the quarry. He was delivering a piece of machinery.

"What's that?" asked Rusty.

"It's named Thumper." he said. "It's job is to collect rock faster."

Soon Thumper was working hard. The men were pleased, but the workers didn't check the boulder, which was beginning to come loose!

When it started to rain, the workmen went to take cover in a nearby shelter. Rusty gazed up, and shivered. There stood Boulder!

Suddenly, a large slab of rock landed on the rails! Rusty was shocked, and the driver became concerned.

"It's too dangerous. We must leave 'till the weather's better. The rain must have loosened some of the rock.

"I think it's Boulder wanting us to go away!"

The next day, the weather fared better. The sun was shining, and there were very few clouds. Thumper was working harder than ever, making the men even more pleased.

Suddenly, Rusty noticed something.

"Boulder's moving!" he cried.

"Don't be so daft!" said the driver. "It can't!"

But it could, and landed right in front of Rusty! Even worse, the boulder began to move!

"It's... rolling along our line!" said Rusty.

Boulder kept following Rusty. Then, they came to the end of the track.

"We'll stop here until Boulder passes by." said the driver.

They waited a long while, but Boulder was nowhere to be seen, until...

"He's right behind us!" cried the driver.

Just ahead, they saw a small junction. One line went uphill, and the other kept going straight. Boulder thundered uphill.

Rusty was nervous.

"Where could he be heading next?"

Meanwhile, Skarloey was making his way to the quarry, when he saw Boulder coming right towards him!

"HELP!" he cried.

Boulder was catching up fast. In the process, he crashed into a water tower, splashing gallons of water onto Skarloey.

"We must warn everyone!" shouted Skarloey.

"Yes, but how?" called Rusty.

Boulder meanwhile, had thundered a bend, and was now heading straight for Rheneas!

"It's running loose!" he yelled.

His driver drove him back as fast as he could.

"HURRY!"

They just managed to miss Boulder, crashing right into some buffers.

"Better a crash then a squash!" said the driver.

At the yard, Percy was collecting some trucks, when he heard Boulder.

"Oh no, he's heading straight for me!" squeaked Percy.

Thankfully, Boulder missed Percy, but crashed right into the shed, causing a fiery explosion!

The damage caused by Boulder was so severe, that Sir Topham Hatt had to bring in a rescue team, to inspect the damage.

Then, he made his decision.

"I have decided to close down the mine." he said. Then, he turned to Boulder.

"We should have known better to leave this part of the island alone."

They moved Boulder to a new spot, on the top of the mountain, close by the yards, where it couldn't do any harm anymore.

Rusty assured that on a clear night, that Boulder was standing proud and silent, thinking about it's previous home, on the top of the mountain. I wonder if Rusty is right, don't you?
