A Short Story
Once upon a time there was a little mouse that often enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the cupboards where the family kept all their best food. He would nibble here and there on grains and wheat always weary of the family's cat. The cat was charged with catching the little pest but often found the little mouse to be far too clever. He never strayed too far from his little hole. But the family was just none to keen to find little holes in their bread. The cat pondered as she passed the floor, until her paw alighted on a tack. Her howl and hiss drew the attention of the little mouse, and it was to him she pleaded.
"Little mouse, little mouse, won't you come out and help me?"
"Aye, cat but you're of the mind to eat me," He chided.
"No, no... I'll give you a boon... please my paw it hurts so much."
"A boon, from a cat?" He crept forward, "For what I might ask?"
"Pull the tack from my paw, and I'll spare you." The cat whined, as she watched the little rodent slowly approach until he stood just beside her head.
"Which paw is it?" He asked standing on his hind legs.
"Oh... all of them..." She jested, before pouncing on her prey and swallowing him down. She lifted the tack and smiled, "Who would have thought a tack in the paw could catch a mouse." She let the tiny trinket fall and clink against the floor, before wandering off.
The End
