We knew them very well, and that's all very well - but what about their mothers and fathers… their family?

"… Sometimes, I wish I had more, you know?" Green's voice broke the silence they had fallen into as naturally as any natural phenomena. Red looked at him, his eyes reflecting the fire in front of them. He didn't say anything, but Green could read his friend like the back of his palm.

?

"I mean, sure we have life – and we're not that poor or that rich. We both have fame… especially you, the legend of this mountain," Green spoke carelessly, waving his hand. "…But haven't you ever wanted to belong somewhere? Maybe… maybe have a family?" The question hung heavily in the air.

Red looked away.

"I know I have Grandpa and Daisy, and that's enough," Green hastily went on, trying to keep up with the one-sided conversation. "But, Red… sometimes I imagine what it would be like to have parents," He trailed off into silence.

"You're lucky to have a Mom, Red, you really are," Red didn't answer, and Green shrugged, before getting up. "Well, I've got to get going. I'll have to go to the gym tomorrow – lots of trainers," He put his hands in his pockets and signaled his Eevee to come along.

It was the first time in a long time that Red called his Mom. He didn't say anything at all, but that was enough for the both of them.

"So how's your Dad, Silver?" Gold asked. Rash as he was, he made sure he was delicate as possible when it came to the subject. He didn't look at the red-head, but just wiped the egg he was holding with a warm towel.

"…He's still weak at home," Silver answered, his face covered by his hair. He was busy jotting down something on a piece of paper as he sat on one of the Daycare's stools. "Ya think he'll make it through?" Gold went on.

Silver rolled his eyes. "Of course he will. I'm taking care of him," He stopped writing, and Gold could tell his rival was disturbed by this conversation. But once he started, it was difficult to stop.

"I think it's cool to have a Dad like yours," Gold blurted out.

Silver's eyes softened just a fraction, but his voice still came out monotonously; not used and never will be used to affection.

"I think it's 'awesome' to have a Mom like yours," Silver offered, smirking silently as he used Gold's type of language.

Gold's grin widened, but Silver started at him blankly; refusing to acknowledge the jaunty boy.

"… I heard from Senior Blue that she heard Senior Gold and Silver talk about parents,"

Crystal opened her mouth, ready to tell Emerald not to believe everything Senior Blue said; but she stopped when she heard the subject mentioned.

"…Parents?" She asked, barely audible. Emerald stopped spinning around in Green's favourite laboratory chair. "Yeah," He hesitated, before starting to spin around again; faster than before.

"You have a parent don't ya, Crystal?" He asked, now a spinning orange and green blur on the chair. She smiled at him fondly. "Yeah, a Mom," She continued typing her research at the lab's computer. But somehow, she didn't really have the heart now.

"It must be fun to have a Mom," The younger boy said wistfully, spinning so fast it was like he was trying to spin his worries away.

"… It is. You can share mine," Crystal assured him, knowing there was no such thing as sharing a Mom; but delighting Emerald's childish antics all the same.
