A SILENT ECHO
Here in this place
A silent plea echos
A plea of remembrance
For us to never forget
What happened here so many years ago
This place ounce echoed with the cries of young men
As the lay in a pool of their blood and those of their friend
Brother against brother
Neighbor against Neighbor
Father against Son
Must we have really fought?
Even to the bitter end?
What did we gain but heartache and hate?
Sure the Nation stayed whole,
But did it really for I still see scars
Upon the land and in its people
North against South
It never really ended
That hate and bitterness it still echos here
In the shadows of this battlefield
But most of all it echos of sorrow
Of a loss so great we shall never know of its extent.
Of a war so horrid that its effects are still seen today.
