This is the second part of the Angel-Lit Path Series of One-shots. This and the next one take place after the end of WW3. Germany has been defeated and his land has been divided up including France receiving England's land. This part will divulge into Canada's thoughts of what is going on after the War has ended and France is trying to cope after losing England by trying to bring him back.
Angel-Lit Path: Canada's Melancholy
Canada sighed as he walked up to the tombstone in a cemetery on the English State Island of France which was once England's country.
"Arthur Kirkland, The Persona of a Nation Who's Magic Stretches Across Time." Canada read that in his head and smiled lightly as he keeled down, laying a English Rose in front of the stone.
"Hello Dad…" he started, it had been a week since the send-off, and a month since France got England's land back from Germany and given it a new name In memory of the once-great country. Canada had only been to Arthur's grave once since then, it wasn't because he was trying to pretend it never happened, or that he was busy. He had been given all week off by his boss to mourn.
He wasn't just mourning though, he was afraid.
Why was he afraid when the war had ended? Why was he afraid when the enemy had been defeated? He knew the answer but didn't want to show it, he didn't want to admit to that fear so he avoided coming to 'see' Arthur as much as he could, but he felt the guilt of that build up thus he visited on this cloudy afternoon.
"….Papa misses you, well I-I think everyone misses you….I…I miss you too…." He sighed.
"Things haven't been the same since you left. America's been quieter and Papa hasn't smiled as much since you left….I-I wish you stayed….I-I wish you'd come back…."
He wiped his eyes quickly after taking his glasses off. "It's been really hard too, Papa's trying to get use to managing a larger country but he's trying to manage. He's also started to try to learn how to do magic to try to bring you back…..even though I know it isn't possible but I don't want to say anything because I don't want to hurt him…"
That was it. He was afraid of losing France as he dived into his magic studies, always trying to bring his lover back from the grave, even though France most likely knew it was impossible.
"….He misses you more than anyone I bet, so it hurts to see him trying so hard even though he knows he'll fail, I want to help him Dad but I don't know if I can, I just want him to smile again….like he did before…." He couldn't help a few tears falling onto the grass as he spoke.
"….I…don't know what to do…." He stood up with a sigh. "Please…I think you're the only one who could stop him from destroying himself….I'm…I'm useless…." He turned and started walking away only to hear the wind whisper to him from behind him, the sound of leaves rustling in the wind was strangely comforting.
"Don't give up Poppet, I know…it seems hard but your….your his son….he'll listen to you if you try, you can do it….don't give up….for me?"
Canada looked around in confusion, only to see no one around him; he looked to the tombstone and saw the rose was gone. He blinked before he continued walking.
"That was just the wind right? U-Uhm…well….maybe it's worth to try again…" he then hurried off.
Britannia appeared behind his tombstone, rose In hand as he smiled at Canada's retreating figure.
"Merci mon petit Matthieu." He spoke softly before disappearing once again.
