Hey all. Will bring you more soon.
This one's for Dave. As always, review if you liked it/didn't like it - tell me why!
Prompt 76: Insomniac.
Harry can always tell when someone is coming down the stairs.
The stairs creak as the weight of the person disturbs the wood, and dust comes down from the ceiling and makes him sneeze.
Harry can always hear the creaks. They wake him up.
If they're light, then they're Aunt Petunia's; if they're heavy and to the right as he looks up at the ceiling of his cupboard, then it's Uncle Vernon, holding onto the banister; if they're elephant-like, almost purposefully loud and very dust-inducing, then it's Dudley.
Sometimes, Harry wakes up in the middle of the night, when he knows everyone's asleep, and he hears creaks. They're not like any of his relatives' footsteps.
Creak.
They start at the top of the stairs and slowly make their way down.
Creak. Creak.
Gentle footsteps walk along the corridor and stop outside his door.
He turns away from the door and sounds, bunching up his duvet around him.
Creak. Knock, knock, knock.
"Harry?"
A soft female voice calls his name and he turns back to face it.
Every night, the creaks, the footsteps, the knock on his door.
"Harry?"
Again, louder.
Creak.
And the door opens and light filters in around the silhouette of a woman.
"Harry. It's time to get up. We have a meeting at the Ministry in an hour."
It's Hermione.
Harry turns away from the light and closes his eyes. He can still hear the creaks.
