The Shocking End of Snoopy
Disclaimer: I do not or try to own the peanuts characters. They belong to the late Charles Shultz.
It was a dark and stormy night. The wind was blowing rapidly and the rain was falling heavily. Suddenly there was a huge bolt of lightning that lit up the night sky. This was followed by a deafening clap of thunder. Suddenly Snoopy woke up and found that while he was sleeping, the rain was pouring in and completely soaking him. He then realized that there must be a hole in the roof of his doghouse. So being the brave dog he was, Snoopy decided to fix his roof right away. So he spent the next few minutes searching for his hammer and nails. After he finally found them he climbed up onto the roof and proceeded to repair the hole. Just as he was about to finish pounding in the last nail, he happened to hold his hammer up a little bit too long. At the exact moment there was another huge bolt of lightning which struck the hammer Snoopy was holding. Snoopy received the shock of his life that left his body smoking and still holding the hammer. Of course being the lovable drama dog he is, he started staggering around clutching his chest like he had been shot. Finally he had enough and promptly fell off his doghouse.
The next morning Charlie Brown was bringing Snoopy's breakfast when he received a nasty shock. Lying there on the ground was Snoopy. Charlie Brown was so shocked that he threw up his hands causing the food he was carrying to fly up. And of course what goes up, must come down, causing all of the food to land on top of his head. He ran over to the unmoving body of his beloved dog. He then promptly fell to his knees and cradling Snoopy's body to his chest while weeping the whole time. It seemed that the greatest beagle to ever live had finally passed on.
The next day Charlie Brown asked his mother if he could hold a proper funeral for Snoopy. Realizing how much he had meant to her son and the entire neighborhood, she agreed. So later that afternoon, all of the neighborhood kids held the ceremony. In was Lucy, Linus, Schroder, Marcy, Peppermint Patty, Sally and Charlie Brown and the most surprising of all was Woodstock had come.
"Is there anyone who would like to say any kind words?" Linus asked.
Lucy then walked up to the little coffin that they had made for Snoopy and said, "You were always around. I thought that you would be here forever. Why did you have to go and leave us all here, you stupid beagle?" she finished and then proceeded back to her chair. Linus stepped up next. "You were always trying to steal my blanket. I never let you. I had always toke it for granted that you always be here." He then leaned over the coffin and placed his recreantly acquired spare blanket on top of him. Everyone else proceeded in this manor, speaking and then if they had anything placing it in the coffin with him. Unsurprisingly Charlie Brown could not say anything. He just placed Snoopy's supper dish in the coffin and wept. Finally Woodstock flew over and landed on top of Snoopy's nose. He chirped his goodbye to his fallen friend and flew off, never to be seen again. When the ceremony was over, they buried Snoopy's coffin under the kite eating tree.
The End
A/N: I had this pop into my head the other day. So I had to write it down. I am dedicating this story to my best friend who had to put his dog to sleep on Monday. May you rest in peace Cocoa and we will all miss you.
