It Was All She Would Ever Ask For
They were friends. It was all she would ever ask for.
He had an abundance of friends. And while she wasn't friendless, she would certainly never be popular. He was confident. Confidence had never been her strong suit. He was handsome. While she wasn't ugly by any means, she couldn't seem to look in a mirror and love what she saw.
But despite all these stark differences, they were friends. It was all she would ever ask for.
But she couldn't stop herself from glancing at him a little more than was strictly necessary. She couldn't stop her eyes from following as he crossed the common room. She couldn't help the excited feelings in her stomach every time he talked to her. She didn't try to delude herself; she knew what these feelings meant.
But they were friends. And that was all she would ever ask for.
Sometimes she thought he might feel something similar. She would catch him glancing at her a little more than was strictly normal. She couldn't explain it, but she didn't dare hope for anything.
Because they were friends. It was all she would ever ask for.
She knew she loved him. He was her best friend. Since that fateful Halloween night in first year she had known she could trust him. The crush hadn't come until later. Loving him had been a more recent revelation.
She was a Gryffindor. But she wasn't brave enough. Because they were friends, it was all she would ever ask for.
Authors Note: First Ever Story. It was surprisingly fun.
