No Man is God
So it's over then. Light lost footsteps away from his goal.
Well, that was fun.
I hadn't expected him to get that far. Beating L by using Rem was creative, and he almost got away because of that. If not for those two kids, Light Yagami would rule the human world as Kira.
That he struggled so much made it even more enjoyable. Even I couldn't have predicted just how close he would have come. I did tell him that the holder of the Death Note would suffer though. After all, nothing good can come of having a Shinigami follow you. But still he continued, persisted towards his utopian dream.
Six years of fun for dropping a Death Note in the human world. What more could I ask for?
Who knows how much more fun Light's quest would have been if he had been pure?
Being smart is one thing, but he really tried to do heartless things for a heartfelt reason. That's real stupidity. A heartless person with a Death Note would kill lots of people for personal gain, while someone who really cared would either destroy it or use Shinigami Eyes to put people out of their misery gently when they know they'll die a painful death.
… On second thought, both of those would be really boring. Humans aren't supposed to be pure; they're supposed to be chaotic and unpredictable. Otherwise there'd be no need for Shinigami.
I was lucky he found it. Unpredictable is one thing, but he got his hand on three Death Notes and shared them. He used people, manipulated the world's greatest detective, his family, even the women who would give anything for him. That one girl cut her life in half twice so that she could have the Shinigami Eyes for him, and the second time he even planned for it.
No one outsmarted him until the very end, and it was only because he didn't think about one of the two kids as being a significant threat. The one who got Light said he couldn't have done it without the other one… That only together could they surpass L and beat Light.
Of course, he also said he was the same as Light, so maybe he sacrificed that other one to win. I wouldn't put it past him, but it doesn't matter now that the game is over. Only one remains; Nate River, third L.
The first L, Lawliet, killed by Rem as part of Light's plan.
The second Kira, Misa Amane, has lost her fiancé/hero Light.
The third Kira, Kyosuke Higuchi, killed by Light when he regained his memories.
The fourth Kira, Teru Mikami, is rotting in jail.
The 'fifth Kira', Kiyomi Takada, burned to death because of the two men she trusted most in the world.
The first Kira, the real Kira, Light Yagami, killed by yours truly.
All in all, I got quite a bit of fun out of just dropping one Death Note in the human world… I wonder if it'll be quite as good next time?
Oh, there definitely will be a next time. The police are going to keep the existence of the Death Notes a secret, and Light unknowingly gave me quite a while to live by using the Death Notes over six years.
Of course, I'll need more Death Notes. I'm back down to one as it is.
If I just drop one though, I might not get another Light. If they're still thinking about Kira then, though, then I might get some serious fun out of it anyway.
Others must die for any living creature to live longer. That's a rule of life that only idiots try to deny. We Shinigami are merely pure examples of that. Apples are the ultimate symbol of life for this reason; the Shinigami will consume them without hesitation. In the same way we use the Death Notes to feed on life directly, humans eat other things that were once alive.
It's not personal; we are above you. If you can take solace in the fact that we will never terrorize you as Kira did, then that's fine.
No man can be god… Because god is the level above human.
