If only that were enough.
They sat on his bed feeling, breathing in each other, breathing in what could never be anything beyond tonight. Their hands ran along each other's bodies, a warm tan hand cupped a soft white breast breathing in the skin of her neck, kissing down the soft pale column, tracing her delicate collar bone with rough full lips.
In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds from lovers past
Until a new one comes along
A dark blue dress floated to the floor, a red polo shirt dragged off a hard body. Their kissing became heated, breathless and urgent. He took a rosy pink nipple in his wet mouth, pulling her soft body against his hard one. Dark tan skin against milky white.
I spoke to you in cautious tones
You answered me with no pretense
And still I feel I said too much
My silence is my self defense
"I love you," he whispered, she put her crinkled brows to his, eyes wet with tears, "I know," she whispered back. Lips descending back to his. Quietly he laid her down. Bodies pressed together, fitting perfectly like an ancient puzzle. Ruff to soft, light to dark, man to woman.
And every time I've held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you soon I suppose
He pushed slowly into her, closing his eyes, breathing hard, wishing this moment could last forever. Soft hands cupped his face, "Jake," she whispered, "I love you," he stared into her eyes filled with love, "I know Bella," whispered back with his own tears, lowering his lips to hers.
But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break
Hands and arms and lips, all together in a symphony as old a life itself, tongues meet, hands stroke, hips thrust in a frenzied rhythm.
And this is why my eyes are closed
It's just as well for all I've seen
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows
Tears mix, minds knowing this can only happen once, hearts screaming in protest of the enviable. If only they wished, they could stay like this, locked in each other's arms and hearts. Meeting together with a cry as they came together.
So I would choose to be with you
That's if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break
Slowly they dressed away from each other, turned away, heads down with hair hiding eyes, arms limp and drugged with the loneliness that already consumed their broken hearts.
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows
They kissed for the last time in the door way, rain washing way the scent of him on her body.
"I love you," he whispered again, stroking her soft cheek, wet with rain and salty tears.
"And I love you," she whispered.
She turned and ran to her beat-up truck, leaving him staring into the down poor from the door. He smiled sadly as the truck sped away.
"If only that were enough," he whispered to the rain as he closed the door on the world and what could have been.
