Fading Dreams
[A/N: Thank you for reading this. I just wanted to say that this isn't exactly a fic, or a vignette. It's about Tobias, on his deathbed, remembering all the bad things that ever happened to him. Also, some of the stuff is made up. Don't spam me for it because I warned you, e-mail me, IM me, and I guess that's it. Enjoy! =)]

Tobias had once dreamed of being a paleontologist. To dig up dinosaur bones, to be the greatest in the world. He'd always loved to play with his toy dinosaurs.
But that was before he had become an Animorph. Before he had gotten his morphing power. He was now trapped as a red-tailed hawk, a nothlit, his impossible dream now fading away.
Until Ax had come, he had hoped to be cured. To be a human again. Act like a human, eat like a human, to be a human. To walk, on two legs, on the ground, all the time. To go rollerblading with them, to go to movies, hold hands, and take moonlit walks on the beach with Rachel.
But that was before he had asked the question. And now, he would be trapped forever. Forever, living out his life in a tree, catching rabbits and mice, defending territory. All he would be able to do.
Tobias had thought that the Ellimist was going to restore his power to morph and be human. To be like the others, never again the outcast he once was. The outcast. The loner. The sissy.
But that was before, finally, dumbstruck along with Rachel's wrath, he had realized that he was still a hawk, yet he was allowed to acquire his old self. At least he had his own morph. A morph of himself.
When the Andalites came, Tobias dreamed that he could finally, finally be human again. To be human and have Earth saved along with it. To be with Rachel and raise a brood.
But that was before he had finally asked again, and had to remain a hawk, along with Rachel's foreboding. Even then, he had felt her anger and indecisiveness.
Tobias had always thought that Rachel would be with him. Always, even if he was a hawk. Perhaps she could become a hawk too, and they could still be together.
But, alas, Tobias had misjudged Rachel. She paired off with some other guy named Elmo and left him there all by himself.
That, and others, were a few of the many mishaps that had happened in his life. And now, as he lay, tired, old, and worn at the foot of his tree, he hoped, that at least, he could have a couple of stones to cover him from the dogs, maggots, fleas, and vultures. A little hope, a little wish and dream that was all he wanted. How far he had come from that little boy being slapped by his uncle to the worn out old hawk lying at the foot of a tree. Just some stones, and at best, a placemarker. To tell the world, that once, however long ago, there once was a boy named Tobias, who was a paradox, a boy trapped in a hawk's form. Who had been forsaken by his parents long ago. Who had been, repeatedly, turned down, and hurt by this cold, cruel world many, many times.
After he was dead, a little golden-haired girl tottered out and buried him with a placemark. It said:
