Chapter 1: Prologue (1957-1960)

The date is July 6th, 1957. This would be remembered as the day Rock/Pop music would change for ever. The day Mario meet Sonic for first time and would later form the most famous and influential band in music history, The Beetles.

It was a normal day in Toad Town as the Mushroom Bank High School as they held there annual garden fete they held at Mushroom Kingdom. Mario and his band The Mushroom Men were about to perform their first gig on a small wagon towed to the front of the garden. Joining Mario was Donkey Kong on drums, Funky Kong as tea cheat bassist, Toad on banjo, Yoshi on second guitar (Mario being the main guitarist) and Shy Guy on washboard. They started their performance with "Be Bop a Lula" (Gene Vincent) and "Ain't That a Shame" (Fats Dommio) (songs that he could play and knew well). While he was playing on stage in the crowd was a young looking blue hedgehog named Sonic and his friend Knuckles were walking around the garden and spotted Mario playing stage and having a fun time on stage with his group. After the show Knuckles introduced Sonic to Mario for the first time. "Hey Mario this is a friend of mine, His name is Sonic and his really good at guitar" Knuckles said. "Is he now?" said Mario. "OK then, let's see what you got". Sonic flipped his guitar on his back to the front and began playing and singing "Twenty Flight Rock" (by Eddie Cockran). After he finished Mario looked impressed with his talent with the guitar and his singing. Sonic also taught him how to turn his guitar and some of the basic guitar chords because his mother taught him the banjo first so he only remembered the chords for a banjo. Soon after talking for a while Mario asked Sonic if he could join the Mushroom Men, to which Sonic agreed. And thus Mario and Sonic became not only best friends but one of the most influential song writing duos of all time.

During 1958, The Mushroom Men were playing tonnes of gigs at coffee houses, clubs and dance halls. After a while they needed another guitarist (as Yoshi quit the group for unknown reason) who was good at solos and was also good at guitar. Sonic recommenced his friend at the Mushroom Institute, Luigi. Mario after meeting Luigi thought that he was too young for the group but Sonic told him that he could play the song "Raunchy" (Bill Justis) perfectly and he was much better at the song after one gig where Sonic attempted the song and missed the timing and was embarrassed. After a gig Mario, Sonic and Luigi were on the top level of an empty double-decked bus where Luigi auditioned and as Sonic told Mario he played Raunchy all the way though with no missed chords. He soon joined and became the bands Lead/Solo guitarist.

On July 12th, 1958 Mario, Sonic, Luigi and Donkey Kong went to Parakoopa's Sound Recording Services and recorded their first ever recording. They recorded a cover of "That'll Be The Day" (Buddy Holly) and a song that both Sonic and Luigi wrote called "In Spite of All The Danger". After recording both tracks live in a small recording room they were allowed to own the record for a week at a time. So Mario had the record for one week, then Sonic, then Luigi and then finally Donkey Kong who later gave it a friend who sold it back to Sonic in 1981. Sadly three days later on July 15th, 1958 Mario's mother, Louise was killed by an off-duty policeman by accident. She was only 44 and had only had a short relationship with Mario after her and her husband Marco split when Mario was only 4 years old. During that time when he was 4-18 his Aunt MiiMii.

By 1960 The Mushroom Men had changed the name to "The Beetles", Mario's friend Toad re-joined the group and became the bassist until the end of 1960, Donkey Kong left the group leading to Spike being the bands new drummer and the band was about to go on their first trip to the Metro Kingdom and played at "The 1-up Club". During this time they met Toad's future girlfriend and artist Toadette and her best friend who was also an artist Kamek. They left the Metro Kingdom in 1961 leaving Toad behind after he decided to stay with Toadette. After Toad left the band need someone to be the bass player. After Mario and Luigi disagreed with one of them being the bassist, Sonic took up the roll as bassist. This was just the beginning
