First Time for Everything
Flame + Shadow
Flame never really talked much. Some say he can't talk. Others say he merely has nothing to say.
Yet, somehow, everyone just kind of knows what he wants. Especially Igneos.
Shadow often envied Flame and Igneos' relationship. It was like they could read each other minds.
Shadow often thought that it would be amazing to be able to be that close to Hunter. Then Hunter would walk in, complaining about something, and Shadow would automatically stop thinking of it.
But recently, Hunter had been buys with Corona and Aqune, and Shadow would be lucky if they trained three times a week.
"Geez Hunter!" Shadow complained to him one day, "just because the invecteds have stopped attacking, doesn't mean you should - or can - stop training!"
"Oh Shadow! We'll train later!" Hunter would always reply.
So Shadow had gotten used to training with Venus and Flame, and sometimes Brutece when he parted himself from Portia. (which almost never happened)
But now Venus and Corona were on a mission, and Hunter decided he would once again ignore his training and sleep all day.
Lately Flame has been 'asking' Shadow to train, and today was no exception.
But half-way through, Shadow felt unexplainably tired.
"Hey Flame, let's take a break." Shadow suggested.
Flame stared at him, then nodded.
As Shadow went into the shade to cool off, he felt watched. He looked over to Flame, and noticed him looking.
"Why don't you come over here?" Shadow motioned to the space beside him.
Flame jumped over, and just stared at the mountains in front of them.
Shadow got an awkward feeling, (which he usually did get when he was with Flame) and was determined to get Flame to speak.
Why? Not even he was sure about that, but he knew he must try.
"So..." Shadow started, then noticed Hunter and Aqune walking. "You wouldn't happen to ever get that really annoying feeling when your partner never does important things, but instead sleeps all day and goofs off?" After Shadow had asked, he realised the answer was obviously "no". Igneos was one of the most devoted warriors he had ever met. If he wasn't training, he was either in a battle, or helping the Prince with something.
Yet, Shadow could have sworn Flame laughed. So, he tried again. This time, he'd ask something that everyone deals with. "You wouldn't happen to like anyone, would you?"
Shadow saw Flame freeze, like he was completely made of stone. "Who?"
"You..." Flame whispered, but Shadow truly didn't hear.
"Pardon?"
Flame uncomfortably shuffled away from Shadow and answered again, "I love you."
Shadow was speechless. Not only because he just got confessed to, but also because, who knew Flame was a girl?
"Y-you're a... girl?"
Flame nodded, slowly moving farther and farther away from Shadow.
"Does Igneos know?"
She shook her head.
"So I'm... the only one?"
She nodded.
"I... see..." Feeling super awkward, Shadow wasn't sure what to do. "Want to... keep practicing?"
She nodded.
And from then on, Shadow and Flame became closer and closer. Turns out, that was the first time Flame had ever talked, and Flame only talked when it was just her and Shadow.
