I do not own any of the characters from BTVS or Angel. Joss Whedon alone deserves this honor.
For the record, the members of the Ra-Tet and their functions/powers:
The Ra-Tet is a mystical order of totems each representing a stage in Ra's journey across the sky. Together, the five totems create an embodiment of the god Ra. They each contain a certain "ingredient" needed to perform certain spells affecting the sun. Each of the totems are supreme beings, immensely powerful and immortal unless ritually murdered.
1. Ma'at
Female. White Magic Shaman. One of the two daytime (light) beings of the Ra-Tet. Ma'ats heart is her powerful item, and it is needed for the ritual to "turn off" the sun.
2. Ashet
Male. White Magic Shaman. One of the two light beings of the Ra-Tet. Ashet is composed entirely of light. Inside Ashet is one of the two metal "wings" needed for the ritual to blot out the sun.
3. Manjet
Male. Likes to go by "Manny". This is the neutral totem. No special powers or abilities. Technically, Manjet's only function is the orb keeper of the Ra-Tet. Inside his skull is an orb needed for the ritual of turning day into night. Manjet isn't on a side of light or dark, he is neutral (the noon totem).
4. Sehmket
Male. He is a skinless saber tooth tiger, and his body has been known to show the starry night. Sehmket is one of the two dark beings of the Ra-Tet, symbolizing nightfall. Inside the saber tooth tiger is the second metal wing which is used in the sun blotting ritual. Sehmket is more or less evil, and has been known to associate with Mezaktet.
5. Mezaktet
Female. Infamous for presenting itself in the form of a little girl. Hands down the most evil of the Ra-Tet, Mezaktet is known for being a "Conduit" for Wolfram and Hart, linking the Earthly parts of W&H, the people and leaders, with the Senior Partners. The second dark totem, symbolizing night, Mezaktet is comprised entirely of darkness. This darkness is the last ingredient in the ritual that neutralizes sunlight.
When Ra discovered the Ra-Tet had been destroyed he was furious.
The whole point in creating the totems was protecting the sun, for it was much more vulnerable to magicks than he realizedin creating it. Very long ago, completely selfless, Ra effectively "split" himself in two, leaving him crippled. One half he molded into five totems, two light, one neutral, and two dark. He made them immortal, immensely powerful, and each containing protection items. Protection for the sun.
Ra was told by other deities that the Powers that Be needed the sun "out' awhile, for this big "thing" for the human race. It was apparently a necessary event.
Other deities told him the Troclon is the series of events leading to the purification of the human race, and many events had to align in order for this to be accomplished.
The Powers had gone too far. He was once a great god, able to take physical manifestation. He had so much power.
Again, to protect the sun, he gave up everything. Splitting himself in two has pretty much ensured the suns safety, but it had left his other half, the half that was him, incorporeal and banished only to the sky. After all he had done for the world, this is how he was repaid? Just thinking of the power it would take to appoint new totems, Ra felt angry.
He had connections. He could take the Powers on, and he intended to.
