A/N: It's Tumblr Thursday, people! This story is inspired by a post by call-me-gaspar with contributions from nerdsandgamersftw and completegold. One of the pictures in the post quoted Sid: "I don't like this cat, he reads minds." It got me thinking-what if Diego could read minds?
Please note that all of the dialogue is directly quoted straight from the movie. I don't claim to own it-I'm just using it to help along my frosty little plot. It also does NOT reflect my views on adoption-so please, no hateful flames or negativity. Thanks!
If you are interested in looking at the original post, Google "We are all Sid tumblr post" and it should come up in Images. If you can't find it, PM me. (: Enjoy!
XOXO, Helix.
Disclaimer: I don't own Ice Age or Party City.
"That pink thing is mine."
"Uh, no, actually. That pink thing belongs to us." Sid slid roughly down the cliff-face and landed squarely on his head.
Diego sneered. "'Us?' You two make a bit of an odd couple."
"There is no 'us!'" Manny defended, glaring at Sid.
"I see," Diego nodded. "You can't have one of your own, so you want to adopt."
"Look," Sid placated, and started to drag the human baby away from Diego, "I'm sorry to interrupt your snack, but we gotta go."
"The baby?" Diego asked. He leapt down from his rock easily. "Please. I was returning him to his herd."
"Oh, yeah? Nice try, Bucktooth."
Diego got in Sid's face real fast. "You calling me a liar?"
"I didn't say that!" Sid yelped.
"You were thinkin' it," Diego returned with an easy, smooth growl.
Sid turned his face to the side and put his hand up to his face, whispering loudly, "I don't like this cat, he reads minds."
Diego was surprised, and he leaned away from the sloth-he smelled anyways. "Name's Diego, friend."
"Manfred," the mammoth returned uneasily. "I'm not your friend."
"Fine, Manfred." Diego agreed coldly and watched, with distaste, as Sid carried the baby even further away. He turned back to Manny. "If you're looking for the humans, you're wasting your time. They left this morning."
"Thanks for the advice. Now, beat it." Manny leaned to side, to Sid. "Alright, I'll help you bring it back to it's herd, but promise me you'll leave me alone after that?"
"Okay, okay! Deal! What's your problem?"
"You are my problem..."
Diego didn't move to stop them. He would stalk them for few hours, of course, and think very hard about how the stupid, reeking sloth possibly knew that he could read minds.
He'd always known he'd had the ability, even from the time he was a young cub. He didn't tell anyone, because he assumed that everybody else could do it, too. It became clear, very quickly, that others couldn't, so he often used it to his advantage instead: hunting, preying on other animals, scoping out territory...and especially for keeping tabs on Soto and Zeke.
It was a secret that he kept well.
Maybe big cats would de-evolve as time went on, and their senses would dull. He didn't know. And he didn't much care.
Either way, Diego was content that Sid and his kind would never evolve enough to read his mind.
If you feel inspired to do so, please review!
