Heart's Flame

~author's note~ I don't own Final Fantasy, yada yada yada. This is my first Final Fantasy X story, so don't send me evil e-mails or throw unpleasant foods at me. O.o

This takes place just after the defeat of Seymour on Mt. Gagazet. I know I'm altering the entire story line afterwards, so bite me! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tidus collapsed onto the ground, not caring at all where he was or what he landed on. The other guardians and summoner did the same, each one exhausted beyond measure from the previous battle with Seymour. The ancient mountain itself seemed to revile the presence of the traitorous Yuna and her friends. An icy wind bit unmercifully at the blond's naked arms and legs, stealing what little breath he had left away from him. And he just didn't care. His vision began to dim; two jade orbs seemed to hover just above his face. Tidus leapt to his feet, powered by the now instinctive need to protect Yuna from this enemy.

A large dragon gazed at him, almost with concern. Are you alright? It was nearly invisible, being completely white, save for the fire-colored mane and ridges. Tidus drew his Brotherhood. Just another fiend to deal with. He charged, swiping his sword in a powerful killing stroke. The beast danced around the blow gracefully, hesitating just long enough to knock the boy off his feet with its tail.

Tidus got to his feet, wincing in pain. He crouched, preparing to unleash his Energy Rain. A gloved hand gripped his shoulder, accompanied by Auron's harsh breathing and ragged voice. "Leave her be." The younger guardian lowered his sword reluctantly, turning to glare at the unsent. Yuna had noticed the commotion, and was now talking with the dragon in awe. "Dragons are some of the wisest and most powerful creatures in all of Spira; they are not fiends," Auron half-chuckled in Tidus's ear. "She was only wondering what had happened, and where Seymour had run off to," Lulu continued. Yuna trotted back to her cluster of guardians, a look of childish delight across her face. "She has agreed to accompany us along our journey," she cheered. The older generation of guardians turned to leave. Tidus glanced uneasily at the dragon, doubt gnawing at his stomach. The beast padded towards him, bowing her head respectively. "I am Penta. I'm sorry you mistook me for a fiend; I probably shouldn't have snuck up on you like that," a smile spread around her leathery beak. "No problem." Tidus sliced the air with his arm.

Penta nodded enthusiastically, then trotted after the rest of the group. Rikku, who had also remained behind, bounced up behind Tidus. "I always thought dragons would be more.fierce, you know?" she admitted. "I know," Tidus lied. He wasn't sure what he would have thought dragons were like.

The snow had begun to let up; he paths became more navigable. Yuna and her guardians trudged through the snow silently, as if they had always had a rare mythical beast following them like a trained poodle. Rikku began to fidget and bounce around earnestly. It was so BORING! She scrambled up and slid back down rock ledges and snowdrifts until she accidentally bowled into Kimahri. "Rikku must keep still, or Kimarhi use as foot warmer." Rikku shuffled back to her spot as rear guard. In sudden inspiration, the Al Bhed leapt onto one of Penta's folded wings. She climbed up the gracefully curved neck and planted herself between the two massive horns at the base of the dragon's head. Penta smiled tolerantly, shaking her head playfully back and forth. "What does Penta mean anyway?" Wakka asked out of the blue. "Fire," Lulu replied.

And so began this really pointless but I wrote it anyway journey.
