Summery: Rex sacrificed his past for our future. Freedom came with a condition, however. Rex couldn't be here for us anymore. Drabble. Spoilers for "Rabble"
Disclaimer: I do not own Generator Rex. If I did, Noah would've met Cricket. And there would be pity dates. Lots of pity dates.
"That might be a promise I can't keep." And he took off, back to wherever heroes go when they're done being needed.
Tuck could never blame himself for wondering. Rex saved all of our butts and would gladly do it again. He was always the hero ever since…ever. Why?
Was it because he'd always done that? Even after the amnesia, it was the same guy. Same situation. Same knowing look and stupid grin saving us from whatever trouble we had managed to get into this week. Quarry, the shape shifter, the local cops, even the annual problem of being bored was no match for him.
We took him for granted, and he left, like he always did. We picked up the pieces, and continued until Quarry got us. This time without Rex, we were powerless.
And just like samurai in those old stories, he came back just in time. I was happy. Cricket was smiling. Squid was confused, but he had come around later. We were fine, and Rex was Rex. And just like Rex, he needed to know his past. Criminal, teenager, everything.
That stinking journal wasn't worth ruining my home, though.
Quarry had found us again, shook us down to the core, making us feel unwanted by the world. He dangled Rex's past in front of him, because he could. Rex didn't take the bait, being the hero he'd always been and gave Quarry a beating.
That wasn't the only thing he gave. Hope, laughter, maybe a bit of foresight, but the most important one was that Rex gave us another chance. And I intend to use that chance for good.
Word count: 273 (Not under 100, but still close, right?)
Author's note: Yup. Tuck, having thoughts.
Did anyone else think that Quarry created that sound note out of Rex's journal? I mean, telling a mob boss that you won't remember everything soon has GOT to be one of the stupidest things he might have done…Meh. Gotta have drama somehow. Please Review!
