When They Aren't Looking

Cinderheart was staring at Jayfeather as he set herbs out to dry, as Leafpool had instructed him only a few moments ago. She could not escape the fact that every time she set her eyes on the blind medicine cat apprentice, her heart pounded so hard that she thought it would pound right through her chest. Cinderheart was in love with Jayfeather; she had known this herself for a very long time. It had happened when she had still been an apprentice, on the very first day Jayfeather had taken her out to swim in order to fully heal her injured leg. Ever since that day, for some reason, Cinderheart could not feel anything but love for the tom. But it was never going to happen the way she wanted it to. Jayfeather was a medicine cat. Medicine cats cannot have mates. Sighing, she poked at the mouse that she had begun to eat. Suddenly, she didn't feel so hungry anymore.

"Don't let any of the senior warriors see you playing with your food like that, or you may just end up loosing your ears." Lionblaze mewed jokingly as he padded over and sat down next to Cinderheart. She forced herself to smile as she turned her blue gaze to rest on Lionblaze's golden tabby pelt. He was an admirable cat, and any cat would be stupid to say otherwise. He was one of the best fighters in ThunderClan, not to mention one of the most handsome toms as well. He was, as you could put it, perfect. No... Not perfect. He would never be perfect; at least not to Cinderheart. And that was because because he wasn't Jayfeather.

"I think I'll be fine." She murmured to the fellow warrior, beginning to cover the rest of the mouse with dirt. Lionblaze's ear twitched curiously. The look on his face said that he wanted to ask Cinderheart a question. She begged silently to StarClan that he wouldn't. The last thing she wanted to do was to hold a conversation about her feelings right now. Thankfully, Lionblaze stayed quiet, and just nodded quickly to Cinderheart before walking quickly over to where Brambleclaw was setting up patrols. With a sigh, she slowly turned her gaze back to Jayfeather. She had to stop herself from yowling with surprise. Jayfeather was looking at her. No, staring at her. All Cinderheart could do was stare back into the medicine cat's sightless eyes. Blue eyes locked with each other for what seemed like an eternity until Jayfeather heard Leafpool call his name from inside the medicine den. The tom immediately disappeared into the den, leaving Cinderheart to wonder. Jayfeather was blind. There was no possible way he could have known exactly where she had been, even with her scent in the air. But he had just stared directly into Cinderheart's eyes as if he could actually physically see her. The scene replayed in her head, filling her mind with thoughts until she heard Brambleclaw call her name.

"Cinderheart, we need you on the next patrol!" The ThunderClan deputy called over to her. Nodding, Cinderheart quickly stood and went to meet up with the rest of the patrol.

Sorry that it's so short... I'm kind of new to writing fanfiction. ^^;

Anyways, I'm making this because I've always thought that Jayfeather and Cinderheart made a cute couple. I'm hoping that I don't lose the will to continue this, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
