Disclaimer: Think about it for a moment…would I be writing this if I owned the characters? NO! I'd be in Ireland buying my own castle…*grumbles*
Note: Just something little.
She headed down the corridor towards her room, not expecting what she was going to find.
"Computer, lights." She called when she got through the door. She was more than surprised to find Chakotay sitting on the couch under the window. He had a small box sitting next to him, which was wrapped in beautiful metallic blue paper.
"You're late." He said to her with a smile.
"I didn't know we had a date scheduled for tonight.' Kathryn said walking over and sitting down next to him.
"If you knew I would have missed the expression on your face." Chakotay picked up the box that sat beside him and handed it to her.
"What's this?" She asked confused.
"Another surprise." He answered simply.
She carefully took the wrapping paper off the box and opened it. Inside she found a delicate silver chain with a small oval locket. Inside was a picture of her dog Molly.
It's beautiful Chakotay, thank you." She said softly. "It mush have cost you at least two weeks worth of replicator rations."
"I saved up for it." He smiled at her, glad that he had made her smile.
"But why?"
She asked confused. It wasn't as though it was her birthday or anything.
"Because you're you. Didn't
realize I needed a reason. Besides, I know you miss her, this way her you can
keep her close."
He placed his hand on hers and just for a moment he felt, as she did, as though they were the couple they should be. Still he thought, even if they were never more than good friends he would still have these moments. Moments where it was just the two of them, smiling at each other, not needing to say a word. He thought sometimes that there was more in that moment then there might ever be in a lifetime of romance.
