Partnership. I've read about it in the huge Dynasty library. They say five of us will have a partner, someone that will change one armor bearer's life.
I am one of the five that has a partner. Jazalyn, she's different from all the other girls I've met in my 400 years. She has a light in her that I can't explain; I see the light of Loyalty in her; something I have never seen in an American girl. I see it every time she defies my master. It is so brilliant and clear that it blinds me every time I'm around her.
I cannot blame her, loyalty is required, and yet, I see this fierce loyalty in a girl that has no master. It is strange, how can one be loyal without a master?
Through my viewing orb, I see her and her four friends. No, they are not her friends; Brian is her brother and Sarah, Melody, and Melissa are her sisters. The Great Sun Goddess and her handmaidens gave them to this world, and to us. They are a family; fashioned by the same mother who gave my people the imperial family.
But Jazalyn stands out from the other four. I remember passing out from the wound she had given me when I attempted to hurt Sarah. I remember being semi-conscious enough to hear her tear strips off my overcoat and use it to bandage my wounds. Had she not done that, I would have died from too much blood loss. I remember her feeling my neck with her two fingers and listening to make sure I was breathing.
They say that she is a type of healer. She uses something called "First Aid". I remember seeing "First Aid" used on Melody and then on Wildfire. The girl has a very strong sense of loyalty, maybe even as strong as my own.
Her father is in the American military. He is a naval officer and warrior. He lives on the island state of Hawai'i. Much to my disappointment, he did not do his duty and train his daughter as a Bushi. It appears that when I bring her into the Dynasty, I will have to train her.
Because she does not follow conventional ways, I will not follow my time period's ways when she is trained. Thus, the Aikuchi, Kama, and the Naginata will not be used. She will learn the Katana.
Even now, I notice something about Jazalyn; she is not weak, but she is untrained. She has so much potential, but it needs to come out. Maybe partnership is more than just one sided. If it is, then I only hope that I am ready for the changes that will come.
NOTES:
1. Naginata-A curved sword headed pole arm, size of base depending on if horse or on foot, generally height of user. A weapon considered proper for a woman.
2. Kama-A sickle shaped weapon. A weapon considered proper for a woman.
3. Aikuchi-A hiltless single edged knife. A knife carried by, and considered proper for a woman.
