She didn't exactly know when it happened, but right now staring up into his deliciously deep brown eyes she knew.

His hand cupped the side of her face; his thumb gliding gently across her chin. It felt heavenly.

He peered into the crystal blue depths of her eyes. In them he saw love: love that he'd longed for. Suddenly it occurred to him that in all the nurses he'd tried to date at Rampart, he'd only been trying to find another her, but there could be no other.

She had placed her hand on his chest when she stopped to wish him a quick recovery. She had just stopped by to bring him the prescription on his antibiotic. She knew he was much better today than he had been when Kel had released him from the hospital yesterday, but the pharmacy had been so backed up she'd volunteered to bring the medicine over today after her shift ended. The cut on his arm had needed twenty two stitches, but would heal in time. Usually, Roy helped him when he was sick or injured, but the Desoto family was away on vacation with Joanne's mother. Johnny went on trips with them a lot, but he didn't care for Joanne's mother and she for him, so he'd stayed behind this time. In this private moment at his home, she had left her hand lingering on his chest a little longer than she normally would. She could feel the strength of his muscles beneath the soft flannel of his shirt.

His hand slid around to the back of her tightly restrained hair. She always wore it in that pulled up fashion at work, but right now he wanted to feel the silkiness he instinctively knew it had. He pulled the pins out one by one dropping them on the floor as soft curls drifted to her shoulders, their eyes never moving from the intense hold they had on each other. When he pulled the last strand free he slid his hand down the length of silk and pulled her closer so he could smell the sweetness of her shampoo. He knew the floral aroma well. It was one of the things that always brought comfort and security to him during his many trips to the ER.

She felt him pull her close, against his chest. The musky smell of his aftershave made her snuggle just a little bit closer.

He buried his face in her hair for a few seconds and then pulled slightly back and kissed her forehead. She looked up into his wanting eyes. He bent closer and lifted her chin. Before she knew what she was doing her hand cupped his cheek and pulled him closer. They both paused there with their faces inches from each other hesitating...unsure. Then his lips met hers with a tender passion that sent chills down her spine. In that moment they both knew their relationship had changed forever.
